Yeah I just got done watching the E3 announcement (well, still watching now for Star Fox 0 Coverage) but hell, it looks nice.
A friend of mine are going to try and go to Best Buy to try it out but that'll be after he gets done recovering from his wisdom teeth surgery. Might try and get a video on it.

Currently, the name is "Super Mario Maker", not "Mario Maker".

no i saw the gameplay, it looks really really REALLY good. might have to borrow a friend's wii u for it.
my main complaint with Mario Maker is those obnoxious drop shadows they put behind the NPC's. minor complaint but i just don't think it looks good...they got UI down well but I expect this from Nintendo. I'm very proud.

Now im wondering if they could consider adding Luigi and two player action, even if its turn based like the old days.

I believe there's a power up that gives Mario Luigi's physics, although it's not multiplayer.
The sharing feature actually looks really well made from what I've seen in the treehouses though. This game could be something really great if it's done right, and as far as I'm concerned they are doing a lot right. All that's missing from my perspective is bosses, checkpoints, and a proper world map. It's all looking pretty great.

Oh so that bothers someone else as well. I have to admit, the shadows do look a little weird and they've been sort of bugging me as well, but like you said, everything else seems excellent.

Just played a demo of this at Best Buy.
It was okay - probably not something I'll buy. The graphic set up they have where everything can be toggled between SMB1/SMB3/SMW/NSMBU and normal/underground/ghost house/etc. is really cool.

Hopefully I'll get a Wii U soon so I can play around with Super Mario Maker a little. It's actually not looking half bad.

I played the demo at best buy earlier, and in my own personal bias I'd say its something you definitely want to pick up if you're a Mario fan. I know I will since I like making things(probably why I occasionally use SMBX). I can't wait to share and play Mario Maker levels with the world.

I've watched trailers, some gameplay coverage, etc, but I just can't get interested in the game. Apart from really weird design choices like shadow backdrops and the game singing your very action, it just feels incredibly limited. You could say I'm spoiled by SMBX, which is true, but that doesn't change the fact I keep seeing what Mario Maker misses and a free fangame provides: Slopes, Events and customisable assets.
From the looks of it, this is Nintendo's Super Mario Flash.

I could agree with you, more or less. While I do admire it, the game does feel lacking in some areas. I'm a sucker for enemies, so if they added maybe more of those....

this is such a stupid way of thinking because you're ignoring the multitude of things mario maker does that smbx doesn't.
can i put giant bullet bill cannons inside moving clown karts that shoot spinies in smbx?
does smbx have autoscrolling that actually works?
can i attach chain chomps to moving platforms? does smbx even have chain chomps?
in mario maker things actually interact with each other, thwomps break through blocks, enemies bounce off springs etc.
smbx doesnt even have basic powerups like starman LOL
smbx's user interface is awful, the most basic of things like expanding the length of a level are way more complicated to do than need be, and fuck, good luck trying to figure out auto scrolling or attaching enemies to layers or wtv.
i could keep going but i dont want to.

Its a remake of the sprites, its impossible to rip stuff from a game thats not even out yet.

Speaking of Mario Maker's sprites, someone (me) ripped its sprites too:
The Luigi Mushroom is not mine, though:

No, but why would you want to do that anyway?

No, but does Super Mario Maker have autoscrolling you can actually control?
qig wrote:can i attach chain chomps to moving platforms? does smbx even have chain chomps?
Right, chain chomps are cool, but it's kind of like Starman - a feature people seem to do fine without.
qig wrote:in mario maker things actually interact with each other, thwomps break through blocks, enemies bounce off springs etc.
That's good, yes, but you can have enjoyable gameplay experiences in SMBX without it.
qig wrote:smbx doesnt even have basic powerups like starman LOL
See above.

I won't deny that Super Mario Maker is a really consistent and solid game - that's because it's made by Nintendo and not some guy making a fangame. There are benefits to being able to play Super Mario Maker with friends, on a console, etc. but if you're actually trying to compare raw editor power then SMBX wins instantly. I don't know why anyone would want to compare that though since it's pretty clear that they have different benefits over eachother.
