There is no midway flag
No! Bad CaptainSyrup! Just because you don't think a level is very long doesn't mean that you shouldn't put a midway point in it. It was really annoying having to go through
the entire level again just to have another chance at the boss, and it got to the point where I just added a midpoint myself.
And now, my review of Shyfalls:
For starters, you didn't properly cite your custom songs. The miniboss theme has "sponge" as its album credit, but I can't find any game that's just called "sponge." I figured it may be one of the numerous SpongeBob Squarepants video games, but it's too vague to really tell.
However, I won't take off points for that, especially since your level has problems of its own. Sure, when I first started playing the level, it was actually pretty fun, albeit average in design (with the exception of when you put a Mega Mole sprite swap in a 2-unit high tunnel, forcing me to stop and run away [that's a bad thing, by the way]), but it's the boss that really brings your level down. When I first made it there, I saw that it was a pink Birdo in an empty room, and I thought,
Oh, it's going to spit eggs at me and I'll have to throw them back at it like all of the other pink Birdos, but NO, it shot a fireball at me, and I got hit. It's an unwritten rule that pink Birdos should only shoot eggs, so you should recolor the Birdo red to indicate that it will shoot fireballs. Anyway, after I got hit by the fireball, I was like,
What am I supposed to do? but then I saw it shoot out an egg. At first, I was really impressed (mainly because I skimmed over the first post and didn't realize you were using LunaDLL), but as I sat there in the boss's room watching the fireballs fly by, I realized something: the egg only has about a 20% chance of being spawned! This means that the player just has to sit through several fireball shots waiting for an egg to be spawned, and if he/she misses it, he/she will have to wait for another one
again. On top of this, you force the player to fight
three Birdos, not to mention that the miniboss theme you chose is relatively short, making the boss that much more repetitive.
In conclusion:
You
almost had a pretty good average level here, but the lack of a midpoint and the tedious boss fight really killed your score. I'd say this deserves a...4.5/10.

Moved to Casual Levels after seeing this:
