Super Mario Bros. 3 has always been my favorite Mario game and I've always wanted a proper sequel done in the SMB3 style. So, I decided to make one. This game is one player only, where you will play as Luigi. Many obstacles or jumps are pretty much only possible for Luigi to make. And I've always preferred Luigi to Mario. I've tried to emulate that SMB3 experience. Levels here can be a bit longer and some maybe slightly more complex than the average SMB3 level was, but I think it works. Also, be warned that this is intended to be quite a bit harder than the original game was. It's not kaizo or anything like that, though. It's a hard but fair difficulty, I would say.
There are 8 worlds in the game, each with 9-12 levels. I plan on a bonus world, as well. You can collect stars throughout the game, which will allow you to enter the bonus world after World 8. These stars can be found in Hammer Bros. levels or in select regular levels that include red coins. Collect all 3 red coins and you'll get a star.
World 1 is the traditional "plains" world. World 2 is the desert. World 3 is island/tropical. World 4 is forest, mixed with a hint of the "big" gimmick from original SMB3's World 4. World 5 is mountain theme for the first half and sky theme for the second half. World 6 is snow/ice. World 7 is haunted land. World 8 is Bowser's land. Bonus world will likely be space/rainbow themed, inspired by the rainbow road theme in the Kart games...just without the kart or the racing.
I would say I'm maybe 80-85% done. All I have left are a few levels for World 8, then the bonus world and going back and making some touch-ups. This is done in SMBX 2.0, by the way.
Plot:
The title kind of gives it away. It's just a simple Super Mario Bros. game with no real plot but I've decided to have Luigi as the main playable character. Mario has disappeared without a word. It's up to Luigi to find his brother.
Credits:
I have done a lot of the custom graphics myself but I also have to credit some of the skilled creators who did the graphics I lack the skill to do myself:
