I meant that it wasn't even letting me connect to the SMBX2 website, but I disabled HTTPS Everywhere for the website and it works now. Thanks anyways

So, i saw this cool sequel to SMBX on Youtube before, but i was afraid to download it yet, kinda like some 38A version.
Now i finally found a topic on this, so i will ask the questions here.


1. Is it made by a chinese developer?

2. Do levels from the prequel work?

3. What is LunaLua?

4. Are the developers really lying saying that the 38A engine i saw is discontinued?

5. Which language is it avaiable in?

6. Do i need to unlock hidden features or you have them from the start?

7. Is the size more than 1GB?

8. This says Beta and i am worried before downloading. Does it mean that there are tons of bugs? This is my main worry with Early Access games.

9. Does it have a big enough community of users?

If someone can answer this, I will appreciate it.

Let me first address what SMBX38A is. SMBX38A is a completely different engine, built from the ground up to resemble and extend SMBX. You may sometimes see the claim that SMBX38A is not really SMBX, and what's meant by this is that it's not based on the original engine made by Redigit.

This is not true of SMBX2. SMBX2 is a continuation of the original SMBX, adding more features and better functionality.

SMBX38A is, but SMBX2 is made by a team of developers all around the world.
2. Do levels from the prequel work?
Levels from SMBX 1.3 do work in SMBX2 yes.
3. What is LunaLua?
LunaLua is SMBX's scripting interface. It allows a lot of customization and freedom when developing levels and episodes, and most of the new content added in SMBX2 was actually made using the same script system that level and episode creators have access to.
4. Are the developers really lying saying that the 38A engine i saw is discontinued?
Sadly this doesn't seem to be a lie. A few months ago, the developer of SMBX38A got angry with his userbase for hacking around some restrictions he placed in the engine, and in order to punish the community, indefinitely suspended development.
5. Which language is it avaiable in?
While the community is primarily English, the SMBX2 editor has support for a wide array of different languages, though I'm not entirely sure which are complete.
6. Do i need to unlock hidden features or you have them from the start?
All features of the SMBX2 engine are available immediately. Our goal is to facilitate people making what they want, not to place arbitrary restrictions on them.
7. Is the size more than 1GB?
The current build is 501MB
8. This says Beta and i am worried before downloading. Does it mean that there are tons of bugs? This is my main worry with Early Access games.
There are a fair few bugs, it's true, but we work very hard to make sure things are robust. The main reason the engine is listed as "Beta" is that some features (such as the new characters) may change how they work in future versions. The most recent build does have a few known bugs, but that's because it's a huge update with a lot of content, and it's a pre-release version to facilitate the MAGLX3 contest (and get some wide-spread bug testing in the process).
9. Does it have a big enough community of users?
There are a lot of users of SMBX2. The MAGLX3 contest for example, which was opened on the 31st of March, now has more than 200 people who have signed up to enter.

MAGLX3 is the contest that this version is intended for: "Make a Good Level X3". Originally this contest was supposed to start after Beta 4's release, but given Beta 4's prolonged development, it was already started now. So this is an incomplete preview version, not recommended to be used for episodes.

(also I'm still curious for the questions I asked you in PMs)

Another one: what does MAGLX3 mean in this version's name?
Means that it was released for making levels for MaGLX3 (Make a Good Level contest X3), as it is the main intention for releasing this version.

It is a preview build so it contains more bugs than normal betas, hence it is recommended that you withold episodes until beta 4 releases, and to avoid exploiting bugs with the new features as they will probably be fixed when beta 4 releases.

You can create a handler for function onMessageBox(eventObj, message) which gets called whenever a message box is displayed. From there you can then replace the message (one way of overriding it) or cache the message, pause the game with Misc.pause() and cancel the eventObj, to manage all parts of the message system in your code. We didn't remove the ability to override a message box in this version, nor did it get more complicated to do than it was in the past.

Any way to get the regular PGE Editor interface? I used it to edit 1.3 levels and it felt smoother and well organised.

Go to the Help menu, and there will be a part where Legacy GUI and Modern GUI is shown. Press the Legacy GUI, and you're all set.

I know about this and said i used PGE previously. But here they changed it so it brings something thats more confusing than the stand-alone PGE.

Hello everyone - I belonged long in unofficial Spanish and French communities about SMBX 38A version. I am in preparation to finally install this new version.
Very nice of you would be to anwser:
What are the main exclusive feature of this version?
Which program language does it script in?
I heard complaints about it being very Hard to use, that true?
Is the compatibility backwards with 1.3.0.1?
Do the developers ignore suggestions?
Are the physics bugged?

literally the three most prominent complaints about 38A; all of these are not given in X2.

If you only use 38A, it may work for you, but X2 / PGE can play 1.3 levels without converting them.

Ok guys so i have a new question for you, can i use the differents skins of the forum to try some good stuff before the beta 4 out ? like pipe skins or background ? i wanna edit some level with MAGLX3 and then continue with beta 4. Or i'll have to start from the begining ?


other question : Are the MAGLX3 and differents graphics pack compatible ?
