We're talking about fanboys as in "people who can't tolerate anything else but the stuff they like and will post hate messages on everything they see that doesn't belong to the stuff they like". I'm pretty sure you're not one of these.

When does hating fanboys stop being a normal thing and starts being called a phobia?
For all I know, the people agreeing with this vague topic hate the games they play just as much, when they don't do shit other than associate with it. THAT'S not cool.

No one cares, and it's as much your fault for buying in. Stop being insecure in a thread about making a point.

Eh, fanboys can be annoying if they have your favorite YouTubers by the balls when it comes to what games they play, yes. However, being a fanboy alone while not bothering anyone, and minding their own business is fine with me. The one thing that does get to me, is when a fanboy or a group of fanboys is persistent to the point where the rest of the audience looks like idiots for enjoying the same game the fanboys do.

Sorry if you got that wrong. I'm not entirely against fanboyism (like I say too often: May everyone like and hate the stuff they want to like and hate), I'm only against those fanboys who go to YouTube videos about the stuff they hate and express their hate towards that stuff while having no valid reason for their hatred.

Get over it.
Who the fuck cares about some random dorkwad who has an axe to grind for reasons as stupid as your reasons for hating them? Their world is petty and you can safely ignore them. They only give you problems when you have an attitude about them.

Aren't you being an "anti-fanboy" fanboy by hating fanboys for no reason because they hate things for no reason?
But, DarkMatt complains about you doing it, so he is an anti-" 'anti-fanboy' fanboy" fanboy....
I complain about him complaining about you complaining about their complaining, so I'm an anti-"anti-'anti-fanboy fanboy fanboy' fanboy" fanboy.
I'm getting a headache.

Are you trying to troll me because you know you can just give fanboys zero fucks?
Or are you THAT stupid?

This is one of those fun questions when it comes to figuring out where the problem lies. Do you blame the whiny kid who doesn't know what he's talking about, or the guy making the content that gives in to the demands/panders for more popularity?
As for CoD, it's more of an audience stigma and blatantly pandering to its ideal customer that gives it its notorious image. I like Call of Duty 4, but that's been 10 or so years ago; it's very old and most people have felt an urge to upgrade by now. Newer CoD games literally carries the disease over intentionally. I don't know whether to call the dorks who make it blind, willfully ignorant, or throttled by their publisher to not care.
Activision's shit is the lesson to be learned here.
Seriously, name me a game Activision has published that people talk about in the past, say, year. All their eggs are in that CoD basket. They're a couple shakes away from being EA.

I don't get why Minecraft's on the list of games ruined by fanbases, so could you give some examples? (I don't pay it enough thought to terribly understand its fanbase.)

Uh, what?
Either you're trolling (unlikely), or you're taking my post a little too seriously.

Well, I am of no authority to say who is to be blamed there, though I believe content producers shouldn't be at fault for building their popularity by the means of pleasing the masses. Blaming either side doesn't accomplish much anyway, so I don't really care too much about the one at fault.

When I had wrote that reply I had Achievement Hunter's audience in mind so I'll use that as an example. Every Friday they try and have a Minecraft Let's Play uploaded, however this is not always the case. Sometimes they have power outages, or video schedules start conflicting and the video is sometimes delayed or uploaded the next day. This of course prompts the Minecraft fanboys to flame the comments of their other videos demanding the new episode until they get it. They even do this when there aren't delays and it's just a day where they upload in the later evening rather than the early afternoon as usual. I don't read their comments anymore, mostly for this reason, but I'm sure the same pattern is continuing anyway.

Neither am I. It's really a case-by-case scenario. Sometimes it's the company pandering, other times it's the fanbase ruining it. One cannot just openly assume it's always one side's fault because life's a bit more complicated than that.
And you are correct, you can assign blame, but what's done is done. It's mostly just to figure out, "Who fucked up?", so you can change your impressions on them accordingly and move on. There's not much blaming can do, but getting an idea of what went wrong does help. I'm repeating myself.
I might want to point out that I'm explicitly using the words "fanboys" and "ruining" together. There does exist fans of a game who help steer it for the better. That is actually really cool and it helps to establish a strong connection between producer and consumer. It can just be taken to an extreme; it has to be delicately balanced to achieve greatness. Problem is balance is a hard thing to come by in this world, so most of the time when you have something valuable, either or is going to happen.
Humans are greedy.

Why do you take posts seriously when they clearly aren't meant to be? I'll admit, it was a bit of a stupid "joke" (believe it or not, it started out as a serious post), but you have no reason bother responding, nor do you have reason to call me an asshole, among other things.

I wouldn't say you're an SMU fanboy, but rather you just have hopes that are too high (in my opinion, at least).
