When I downloaded the file you published, I put the world directly in the "worlds" folder in my smbx 1.3.0.1 folder, nothing has been touched.
I verified in the level folder (something like the 13th level), it's definitely a wrong mask.
Also I don't know why there is a custom sprite for the toad npc when it's the same as in the basic graphics in every SMBX folders.
I'll look into all of the problems you've been having with the game and I'll fix them ASAP. Thanks for the Feedback.
If there's anything else you want me to fix or update feel free to ask.
So, I haven't finished the episode yet, but overall it's fairly decent.
The dream sequences activated by the beds are an interesting idea, and I like the little hints they give about the story.
The level design is pretty decent too. The only things that I could've pointed out have already been pointed for the most part. If anything, coins are in surplus and make it easy to farm a high amount of lives quickly, and the overall danger of the levels feels pretty low. My only other gripe with the levels is the switches to activate the dotted-line blocks; they don't really add anything to the levels and can even be a hindrance in some cases.
As for serious issues; on the Rainy Forest level, if I go down the first pipe with the piranha jumping out of it, I get a crash report, specifically "Runtime Error 53" File not Found. I'm not sure if this has something to do with my client, or the install itself.
Overall, it's a decent episode. The writing and is actually pretty fair. Most indie games or fangames that I've played have pretty substandard writing that tries far too hard to be funny or interesting, only coming off as incredibly cringe and difficult to read. The story so far seems interesting too. I'll be sure to update if I have any other issues.

I'm going to make one more update to this episode fixing all of the issues people have addressed. I'll also make the game more challenging and I'll probably add a couple extra levels.

Thanks for the feedback.
One small suggestion I would have for the episode is recolouring the yellow switch blocks to orange or another colour. (The main problem with yellow switch blocks is that they look exactly like normal '?' block)

I can see what you mean by that. I will change them in the update.
So, I finally got around to continuing the game, and I can't get past Mushroomwaters. I talk to the fighter's club, break into the shop, get the shoe, and when I go to the door on the right, I can't enter it. I've tried all the things I can possibly do; kill all the koopas, talk to the guy on the jet platform in the club, talk to all the toads, fly around, etc.
Am I missing something, or is that level borked?

You have to get a key underground and unlock one of the houses with it. Then you defeat the person inside and get the blue shoe. Then you have to talk to the guy near the door, and the door will open.

I've done all of that multiple times and I still can't enter the door.

Here is a walk-through of the level.
Also be sure you have the latest version of the game. Just look at the filename for the game. If it doesn't have "2.0" at the end of it, you'll have to upgrade.
