Music Festivals

Postby Karl Marx » Mon Jan 19, 2015 5:32 pm

Have any of you ever one to a 4 day-ish music festival, where they have bands from all over playing four days fo music?

Just bought a ticket to the Bonnaroo Music Festival in Manchester, TN, and depending on the lineup, I might go to the Forecastle Music Festival in Louisville or the Bunbury Music Festival in CIncinnati.

Super pumped for Bonnaroo though, it'll have Mumford & Sons, My Morning Jacket, deadmau5, Florence + The Machine, Billy Joel, Kendrick Lamar, and a lot of other artists. It'll be fantastic!

Have any of you ever gone to a concert like this?

Wormtown/Strange Creek Camp-Out at its core is a Music Festival that takes place at Camp Kee-Wanee every single year. If you are a local you will know that Camp Kee-Wanee is positioned in the middle of fuck-all in the mountains, in the forest, near a river, with a cornfield right outside of it. Most of the time it rains on the days of Wormtown so it makes the place all dreary, I've only been up around the area once before because if you are a local you will know anyone living in the vicinity of Camp Kee-Wanee are usually hardcore druggies or are hippies, most of the time they're both.

Basically, at certain times of the year (This year it'll be in May), a group from somewhere (I think Worcester?) gets together annually to host a music festival that is kid-friendly and is hosted out in the woods. Seems all fair and tame, right? It has 3 days of music and 2 nights of camping, it has a community bonfire with a drum circle at certain times of day, it has two different stages (Vernville Earthe and River Worm stages), it has a nightly FIREWORMZ! fire show, roaming entertainers, family camping and kids entertainment, craft and food vendors, and a farmers market with locally grown produce and stuff. There is a first aid building located at the backside of the pool area which is pretty much all the way in the back of Camp Kee-Wanee, it has a Holistic Village (tea room, Agni Yoga, Artist Gallery) that nobody really goes to, it has a Strangers Helping Strangers Food Drive which sometimes happens, it has Disc Golf which is the most popular thing ever, and a Silent Disco.

Right at the bottom of the FAQ on the website it says "Don’t forget this place is a Kids Camp for Music and The Arts. We are trying to protect and improve the land for the kids that attend the camp. So, we’ll leave nothing but our footprints…" Any by that I assume they mean it's a place where kids can go and get high.

Here's an excerpt from my town's newspaper!
http://www.recorder.com/news/townbytown ... c-festival

My dad works for the town ambulance company, he dispatches calls, but sometimes he works on the ambulance and has to go places. One time he had to go to Wormtown for a 50-year old man, in the cornfield, screaming at the sky, attempting to rip his own penis off. Another time he went on a call for a 20-some year old that stole a fire extinguisher from the first aid building, ran through the woods, broke into an apartment, got on the roof, and jumped off of it, supposedly screaming "I'M JESUS!". He broke both of his legs and paralyzed himself from the waist down, and as they were taking him into the ambulance, he was apparently coming off of his high and said "Man, what was I thinking? I'm mortal, I'm not Jesus.".

I have been to Wormtown only once and I got high off of marijuana smoke during one of the performances. I also got to enjoy the sounds of a K-9 unit searching for a guy that supposedly stabbed a 16-year old with a shank in the middle of the night. Also when I'm at home, people leaving or going to Wormtown always seem to get lost in my neighborhood and most of the time they're either drug dealers or druggies looking for the music fest.

Because of this I don't really care for music festivals, especially ones that take place in the woods on rainy days.

EDIT: And to add, I forgot that there are a lot of prostitutes there.
