Computer doesn't detect earphones

Postby Superiorstar » Wed Nov 19, 2014 7:45 pm

My computer has been acting weird lately but this is by far the weirdest. when I put my earphones in the slot it doesn't detect them and just plays the sounds/music publicly, I've tried everything I know to solve this, can someone help me with this?

Is this relative to SMBX?

I honestly have no idea actually... maybe restarting your PC might help but I am not sure...

Shine a flashlight in the jack. See any lint?

Yeah, this isn't SMBX related, so I'm moving it to Sandbox.

Here are some thing you can try...

1.) Get a mini, but powerful, hand fan and let it blow in the earphone/headphone port then plug your earphone/headphones back in.

2.) Try restarting your the headphone port. By right clicking the "My Computer" or "Computer" (Can be "This PC" or your <username> if you are using a Windows 8 computer.) and then click on "Manage" (You will have to be an Administrator). Then on the left, click on "Device Manager". Now after clicking on "Manage", go to the top where there is an Icon with a Monitor, with a Magnifying-Glass on it. Click on that. This will Refresh all ports. Don't worry this will not discount any devices in the ports!!

3.) Try to restart your computer.

4.) Try different earphones/headphones

5.) Driver/port can also be disabled

If you want any more help just asked! AND ALSO! Try to do some of the other suggestions first. :) :D

I hope I was really helpful!

It can be a poor contact of the wire, this happens with my earphone too. Try to move the wire a bit while plugged.

This happened to me too and I still haven't fixed it. I was playing GMod one day when my computer went berserk and everything crashed. I think my speakers got damaged too. Once everything had finished crashing, none of my sounds were working and my headset wasn't working either.
I restarted my computer and my speakers worked again, but my headset didn't.
I figured out that my computer only detects a headphone input (it has a green jack) when I manually angle it in the jack, and doesn't detect a microphone input at all (it has a pink jack). Also, if the computer isn't playing any sounds for a period of time, the speakers will get distorted and crackly. Oddly enough, by jiggling a pair of headphones or a headset in the green jack, it fixes the speakers.

It's only green and pink for old computers, these days the new PC's have the multijack for the earphones/headphones.

Thank you for all the help, but it isn't the headphones that don't work, it's the audio jack, I've tried most of your method but nothing seems to prevail :(
I guess I might need a professional's help with this. But seriously thanks for your suggestions.
