Yeah, when I use paintbrush the pixels like to " merge " and it's quite annoying. Is there a way to bypass this or use the pencil took and make it 2x2?
And when making pixel art how large should the canvas be?

Well:
Change that. I guess.
Pennello = Paintbrush
Larghezza pennello = Paintbrush's widht

Well, I like to use 100x100 canvas. To do 2x2 pixel art, just do it in 1x1 and resize to 200% using Nearest Neighbor.

You should be using the pencil to do this, not the paint brush

Pencil = you draw 1x1 squares
Paintbrush with the setting Christian suggested = you draw 2x2 squares
Yup pencil is bdefinitely better.

Yup pencil is bdefinitely better.
But the paintbrush tends to collide pixels and merge them making 1x1 pixels in the process.

Turn off Antialiasing.

Look dude, it might be tedious, but I assure you that it'll be way easier using the pencil than the paintbrush. Using the paintbrush will inevitably result on 1x1 pixels generating if you're not cautions enough. It'll be better for you to use the pencil, and after making a gorgeous 1x1 pixelated graphic and then resize it going to Image/Resize. Set the resizing properties to percentage, and in the "Resample" tab select nearest neighbour. After doing this you'll have a perfect 2x2 pixelated graphic.

What's nearest neighbor?
Mind showing a screenshot.

That's also a way. Man, I'm dumb.

What's nearest neighbor?
Mind showing a screenshot.
Nearest Neighbour is a resample option on Paint.NET that allows the painter to resize a graphics 100% similar to the original graphic. It will show no extra pixels that bother you so much. Although it will double the size of the pixels on your image. If you have 1x1 pixels on your image after resizing you'll have 2x2 pixels, if you have 3x3 pixels on your image after resizing you'll have 6x6 pixels, etc. Basically, if you have nxn pixels on your image, after resizing you'll have 2nx2n.
After resizing you'll have to modify some pixels if they are larger than 2x2, but's worth doing this method than using any other resample option.

I have no idea what any of those screenshots say.
Can someone provide me something in English?

C'mon it's not that hard to understand, you don't even need the screenshot. Go to Image/Resize and change the "Resample" option. That's ALL you have to do, 2 simple steps.

You also might want to check out this topic I made: http://www.smbxgame.com/forums/v ... =50&t=4493
With how to configure Paint.NET to default to nearest neighbour resizing, etc. To make it more spriter friendly so to say.

You mean, to change the default for the tools? - That's easy.
Just go to the gear, on the right and then on the left click on the thing and then change everything to what you want! - Not that hard!

mspaint doesn't have transparency support though.

But it's really easy to make sprites in it, and if you need transparency, just copy/paste what you've done to a program that does have it. (Gamemaker Sprite editor, Fireworks, GIMP, etc)

Why the f*ck would you use Gamemaker Sprite Editor, or Fireworks?
Just you paint.net. - Very easy to uses, and a lot of features!
