Any Solutions for this Editor Crash?

Postby Socknic » Tue Aug 19, 2014 7:11 pm

Hey everyone. This is a pretty simple problem, so I'm going to keep this brief. I've begun work on an episode that uses quite a lot of CGFX. It has 100+ universal (In folder with all levels) custom graphics, which is, unsurprisingly, creating somewhat longer save times. I do remember that being a side effect of packing an episode with loads of universal graphics when I was working on a project a couple years ago. However, when going to test the level, the editor will occasionally freeze and eventually crash. I have a feeling that there's no simple way around this, but if anyone has any idea, I'd be very thankful.

It happens in some of my levels with almost no CGFX too.

The editor seems to crash when in that situation when saving more often. The changes do seem to save though.

That's what I thought. It's unfortunate that the editor has these kinds of limitations and problems, but I'm aware that it's also not an extremely powerful tool.

To prevent your SMBX from overloading up your graphics, put them into your "Default" Graphics so you won't have to deal with the whole load up time and sometimes crash issues. Make sure to make a backup of your original default graphics though or else you lose them uselessly and have to research them again.

I've heard of that method before, however, I found that saving often usually prevents the crashes in the first place.
