Let me be a pessimist; what if a new came by and created a really good and debatable thread, and after a lot of people post, the creator edits all of the posts made and puts lots of big boobies porn. And same goes for deleting. What if a new user made a thread that reached fifty pages and had a lot of constructive comments, and then in the end, deleted everything?

This is an awful idea.

But, I would like if people had the power to lock and unlock their own thread; it's annoying having to ask administrators to lock stuff

This isn't possible on a topic-basis in phpBB, but I wouldn't implement it anyway (same with locking your own topics). Enabling a feature like this would mean that we trust a normal user's opinion on what should/shouldn't be deleted or locked...and we don't. That's what the staff is for. It being "your own topic" doesn't make a difference.

"We don't trust normal users' opinions on what should/shouldn't be deleted or locked."

Twisting it slightly to say "JOEY DOESN'T TRUST US!!!" wasn't necessary.

Well, the administrators SHOULDN'T trust us that well, I mean anything can happen with users on this forum so the staff have to be cautious of what they implement. That's the whole point of the staff. If Joey/other administrator(s) trusts you to be good, he will promote you. If he doesn't trust you to be good, he won't.

Ok, sorry

It makes me feel like the whole staff, which includes and is not limited to Joey, does not trust us"

SnifitGuy wrote:So, even if this was possible it wouldn't be implemented? I agree that not everyone should be able to do it, but there should probably be a rank that is awarded for users who make wise decisions on what's reasonable and unreasonable. I mean, if people have proven themselves to be fair and unbiased in an arguement, don't they deserve the ability to delete posts for being such thoughtful members of the community? I know that there are only a set number of people in each group, but I think it would be good to recognize the "fair and reasonable" members apart from the "unfair and unreasonable" members so as to have one reputation for one group of users and another reputation for another. Normal registered users sometimes get a bad rep, and then there are the good users who are stuck in that crowd. They should be distinguished from the normal registered users, and it should all be based on what kinds of posts you make. People do believe the "registered users" group is annoying, but they don't believe there are good users, such as SuperMario7, Raster, and Squishy Rex.
SnifitGuy, unless it's downright spam, you shouldn't delete posts. And regardless of how responsible, kind, honest, or unbiased of a user someone is, they shouldn't be allowed to edit posts, either. Also, it would be unfair if there was like the "good users" and "bad users" group. I know it's not like that, but still. I wouldn't feel that great if, for instance, a user like Bomber57 could delete/edit posts and I couldn't (because I know I never would be able to have extra powers anyway due to my immaturity, bad reputation, bad posting habits, sensitivity, and anger issues).

So, at this point, you can't convince me that this is a good idea. It's just... bad and it can't get any better.

How about members just be normal members? I don't see why we have to reward them with stafflike powers.

Members of this community really need to stop trying to overpower the staff/take the staff's powers into their own hands. We have a staff here to keep things in order because we can't let people run wild; the staff is made up of members that can be trusted with these kinds of decisions (locking/deleting topics, and obviously a myriad of other things).

FanofSMBX: Nobody ever said that we don't trust you (users). We don't trust normal users' opinions on what should/shouldn't be deleted or locked. I don't know how I can make this any more clear.

Well at least we get to delete our posts :P and edit them too. Although like smbxfan said yeah the admins don't trust us. (that's why there isn't a bug reporting area anymore :P JK)
