Custom music filesize help?

Postby FanofSMBX » Mon Jul 28, 2014 1:11 pm

So you know how custom music takes up a lot of file size? How do I decrease the file size? If there's some way to use midi music that would help too.

You can get a program like "Wavepad". With that you can edit a music's length or bitrate, which can help greatly (you can also remove soundbugs, unconsistent loudness etc. with it, if you like to spent the time).
When editing the length of the music track, you should try to make it about 1 to 2 minutes long (so that it loops correctly), and saye it at 128 Kbps (more is really unnecessary for SMBX).
For example, you can edit a music with a length of 4 minutes, which has 192 Kbps, to a length of about 2 minutes, that has 128 Kbps (this cut's it's size from about 5,1 MB to 2,2 MB approximately).
Do that for all your used music tracks, and you can save about 30% to 90% total filesize of your finished episode of average style and design.

Thanks! What about midi? They are usually less than 1MB.

SMBX doesn't read midi files I'm pretty sure. I think it only works with mp3s and maybe wavs (though those are way larger in file size on average).

SMBX read MIDI files, need only correctly set up the MIDI Out in your system.

For my music I'm always using 320 KBps for MP3 or 350 for OGG even if file size will be huge, but less than WAV file. SMBX working with any files without problems.

K-Lite codec pack Mega on Windows 7.
On the Windows XP same codec pack. But I lose possibles for play MP3's by unknown reasons. Even I reinstall/remove codecs, try installing other codecs, SMBX don't wanna play MP3's.
