It depends on the SMBX episode's length imo

Yeah, but isn't a long episode more acceptable than short one? I'm only asking because I don't want my epsiodes to be bad

I don't think the episode's length makes it automatically bad.... As long as the levels are very interesting and entertained.

Okay then. I just didn't want my episodes to be bad.

For a more elaborate version of this post, read this sticky thread in the projects forum:
https://www.smbxgame.com/forums/ ... 90&t=16458

- Everyone works at different speeds.
- You have to find out your own speed by making levels and trying new things. Experiment with what the engine can do and test your limits. If a dozen episodes have to be cancelled for you to find out where your limit is, that's how it is.
- Once you know your general speed, you can roughly estimate how long you need for multiple levels. Multiply that by, like, 2 and you have a reasonable estimate for how long an episode will take you. Cause it's an ordeal that WILL drag you through some low points and it WILL be difficult especially during times when you don't have much free time.
- I ALWAYS recommend making shorter episodes because of all of the above. With only 10 levels in an episode, you don't have to worry about the 60 levels you still have to do.
- Make sure you always have ideas for your levels. If you claim for your episode to have 100 levels but you only thought of 2 in more detail, how can you promise to finish 98 more? Maybe you run out of ideas and then there are either massive cuts or the episode gets cancelled. Happened to like 5 of my own episodes.
- Different kinds of levels take different amounts of time. Vanilla levels are usually quickest since you don't have to make sprites, compose music, write code, or link up elaborate layer and event chains most of the time. Meanwhile some levels are massively complex and can take months on their own. The more complex the behind-the-scenes work in a level, the longer you will need for it.
- Don't force yourself to finish levels you have no ideas for.
- Take it easy.

Some personal remarks which might interest you, in regards to statistics pertaining to the topic title:
- I wanted my current episode to be done in summer of last year, with a development time of 2 years and 3 months. It's still work in progress. 3 years and counting now.
- There's a level in that episode which I started in September 2018 and it's still not done, because it relies on many things that interlock between levels.
- I once made an episode of 10 levels in 24 hours. Weird self-imposed challenges like that can be a great way to test your limits under weird restrictions. A key point of that challenge was that each level was supposed to be unique.
- Summer Takeover has 25 levels across mostly 2 team members and took 5 weeks to make. Hypnosis Redo has 12 levels across 2 team members and took 5 months to make. This exemplifies the "behind the scenes" thing I mentioned earlier.

Maybe I didn't had to ask this question after all.

On one hand in my book a long episode is better than a short one indeed (in fact I'm very much set on ignoring very short episodes). On the other hand I already gave you feedback that you should put more effort into your levels.

Do not worry about the preferred length of episodes from random players in the community, for what matters is what length you think your episode should be. Of course, in accordance with the number of ideas you have and the own limits you know. Design for yourself to have fun and learn something, not to meet expectations.

Okay. Do you know your working speed and limits when making episodes yet? How many ideas for levels do you have? If neither is sufficient for such a long episode, it might be a good idea to start small and work towards that goal as your understanding of your own capabilities increases.

To be honest I'm slow at making levels

That's Quite the length. How many levels do you have in mind on the World Basis?

This is quite what many people say is near impossible to pull off. I'm not one of these, so I just tell you to plan a couple of years for it and don't be daunted when you realize how much that is. Think from world to world, from level to level.

If you had any experience you would also say it's unrealistic at best. This advice fails to account for improvement over time and the desire to revisit and improve older works once one has reached a higher personal standard. At some point you either get caught in a loop of revisions, or you learn so much you wanna disassociate with those older works entirely. There is simply no reason why a designer who is obviously still learning their strengths and weaknesses should make one 100 level episode over 5-10 shorter episodes that amount to the same sum of levels and thus the same amount of content in perhaps even less time.

If people think making an episode is near impossible their wrong then... I completed an episode but I have NO idea what this place was. Even tho I know now, I'm keeping it to myself because YOU CANNOT BELIEVE HOW BAD MY LEVELS WERE BACK THEN! To be honest, your saying people say 100+ levels is near impossible, I don't think so. Airship Attack. I don't know if its one or two but one of them have 100= levels

While episodes of 100+ levels do exist, they are exceptions, not the rule.
