So here it is- the "newbie" project the I mentioned quite a while ago. (viewtopic.php?f=69&t=12993)

Plot:
The Main Protagonist, Stephanie, is informed that her best friend Faith has been kidnapped by a certain Monster (Who basically looks like Bowser  ), and she sets out to go rescue her. Steph also has a friend named Jackson who helps her along her way. (He is kind of an idiot, youll see this especially in the first world   )

Alright, so here's the important part. I won't lie, I made this back in 2012, when i was an SMBX newbie. It was my first project! So at least compared to alot of the things uploaded here, it's not that great. There are a couple bugs, but it is playable, as i have played through this many times! Almost all the sprites are Vanilla sprites, and most of the custom sprites are pretty quirky. Plus, I am missing the Last Level. It somehow got deleted, so technically the episode isnt even complete, even though the last level in the world map does have a fight with The Monster at the end.

But I am not gonna bother with that, because I am going to rebuild Stephanie's Quest from the ground up! That's right, new levels, new world map, new graphics, its gonna be like a whole new game. However, the new version wont even be called Stephanie's quest. Originally, when i first made this episode, the main character was a girl named Tamara, but eventually, for whatever reason, I changed the sprite and renamed her Stephanie. So for the remastered version, I am switching the character back to Tamara, so it will be called "Tamara's Quest: Remastered Edition"!

So just a note- if you find a few dialogue boxes that say "Tamara" instead of Stephanie in the old version, its because I had already completed the episode when Tamara was still the main character, and may have missed a few when changing all the dialogue to "Stephanie".

Here are the sprites from over the years, just for lols :D I am nearly done with my new Tamara playable for TQ remastered!
Left: The original Tamara sprite, made in 2012 (ewwwwwww lol)
Middle: The slightly improved Stephanie sprite, made about a year after I first completed this episode
Right: a sample of the new Tamara sprite I am currently working on for TQ Remastered :D

Another note: The new one is smaller because the older ones were too big. Plus, Tamara is a young teenage girl, so it would make sense that she is a few pixels shorter than your average 64 pixel tall character. If i recall correctly the new sprite is 60 pixels tall.

So my main point in this long post of mine is that I'd like to get a few pairs of eyes on my old version. Feedback on the old newbie version would be tremendously helpful as I rebuild it from the ground up!

I also have a text file that lists most of the major changes and repairs ill be making, so if any issues are found that i didnt address here, please let me know!:

To-Do list for "Tamara's Quest: Remastered Edition"

General:
Give more background on characters like Jackson and Roy. (Roy just randomly appears a few times, not info is given about him) (He's also a birdo)
Change the main character back to Tamara (Originally the protagonist's name was Tamara, who also had a different physical appearance from Stephanie)
Create more custom enemies to use in game
More detailed levels and features
Re-Do World Map completely
Build more plot- Reasons why the worlds are overrun with the Monster's henchmen, even though the quest is to rescue your friend?
Levels:
Will be redone completely, though i may keep a couple particularly good levels and use them for SQ Remastered Edition.
Possibly have more levels in each world, may do a more SMW style world map rather than the SMB style "w-1 to w-4" levels
Make some enemies more varied and consistent- some enemies appear in 1 or 2 levels and never appear again, other levels just spam one type of enemy
Sprites:

Stephanie/Tamara:
Redo Stephanie completely, change her back to Tamara
Give Tamara a Shield, so projectiles wont just "poof" in front of her, or at least find a way to explain why she can block projectiles (Ring of Protection?)
Different outfits for each powerup instead of just the same outfit with a different colored shirt
Give Tamara a world map sprite (right not she appears as a big grey block on the world map)

NPC's
Friendlies
Redo Jackson's Sprite

Enemy Sprites
Various Sprites to be changed
"Repair" some sprites
Edit " The MOnster's " Sprite, make it more custom
Edit/improve "King T's" Sprite
Fix graphic bug on the "Monster Clone" enemy
Redo or at least recolor enemy sprites, to make them look more original

Blocks and other objects in the enviroment
Darken Grass and Dirt sprites
Recolor some blocks
Add more custom Background Graphics
Redo the "Neo Monster City" background

Soundtrack:
Most music in SQ Remastered will be the same as the original, but might change some
Get extended versions of some tracks to prevent long music pause when track ends, Especially for the Boss Battle Music

SFX (requires replacing files in Sound folder)
Change The sound effect for Stephanie getting hit/hurt
Possibly change sound for Explosions
Possibly change sound for when Stephanie dies
Possibly change sound for enemies being killed

The player does clash with everything else though.

Which player though? There's like three versions

Yeah, I'm afraid clashing is a bit inevitable with custom characters, especially in this old newbie episode. I am going to try to mitigate clashing in TQ Remastered by applying more custom graphics, and by having a more detailed player. The third playable sprite is the new one I am working on, its still a work in progress. Plus, all of the screenshots are from the old version. The remastered version is still in the concept stage, as I am still working on the playable character.

Gonna be honest here, I went in expecting a LazyTown-themed episode where you had to defeat Robbie Rotten, but instead I got some background on another episode and said remastering of it! Good luck with that!

you might want to realign the player character to fit on the blocks normally.

That's what the new sprite for the remastered already fixes. That's why I uploaded my old version... I aim to use the feedback on this version to decide what to do and what not to do in the remasterd version.

I can't wait to try this out when it's released!
I think for the updated player model, you should try to apply a bit more shading to the character, as it looks a bit bland at the moment imo

Actually, the character sizes are just like Technical Limitations on 1.3.x. You can't change the size! xD
I'm hyped about the new ones even though i don't know Stephanie's quest. Gotta try it... i guess.

Well, you can make them bigger or smaller, as long as it doesnt overlap with other frames, or is awkwardly unaligned from the hitbox. Like my new Tamara sprite is 60 pixels tall even though the hitbox is about 64 pixels.

But I do wish you could choose the size of a playable, a few years back i really wanted to make an episode where you play as Bowser but sadly the playables are too small to make a Bowser :'(

Hmmm. After Running 1.3 all this time, I may just continue my development in 2.0 after i give it a try.

Actually, the hitbox are unchangeable in 1.3.x. I don't know in 2.0 though. If the hitbox is still unchangeable, we have to wait Beta 4.

I know. Thats why If you want to make your sprite look bigger or smaller you gotta make sure it isnt too offset from the hitbox.
