M39 Host Sign-ups (Poll Phase 2!)

Postby Danny » Fri Apr 28, 2017 3:40 pm

Mafia 39

We're looking for your quality mafia hosting skills and your quality mafia games for our next game!

You've seen Mafia.
You've played Mafia.
Now, it might just be your time to host some Mafia!

Sorry to Pseudo and I, but we will not be hosting.

How do I apply?
All you need to do is post your game suggestion in this topic!
However, you must have participated in at least one mafia game in order to host a game.

After you have posted, your two Game Masters, Pseudo and I (there's FallingSnow too but he doesn't show up that often), will edit your post and respond in green at the bottom if we approve.
If we have comments or changes that we recommend, we will edit in red.
Optional suggestions may be in yellow or orange.

Tips to Remember:
Each user may only submit one game, so choose wisely!
Your game should contain around 13-18 players.
Have about 1 mafia member for each 4-5 townies.
Your game doesn't need to be overly complex to be fun and interesting. Sometimes a good combination of roles can produce a better result.
Don't try to go overboard with the custom roles! You don't need to change the entire theme of your game for it to be interesting.

Ready for Mafia?
Think up some ideas!

Also!

We will be rolling out an experimental new voting mechanic for these host sign-ups.
The voting will be split into two phases. During the first phase, you may vote for as many games as you want, essentially which ones you could see yourself playing in!
At the end of this voting phase, the top 3 games will be put into a single-vote phase, where you may cast your one unchangeable vote for the game you wish to see played.
Ties will be held in a runoff vote as usual, but only for the second voting phase.

M39: Let's raise the flag of rebellion
- 20 players (14 town, 5 mafia and 1 third-party)
- Cardflip
- Classic win conditions
- Role usage is OPTIONAL

The Despots
Tyrant: Can threaten a player each night to prevent them from speaking the following day phase. Alternatively, he can roleblock a player. However, his violent behavior gives him a unique cardflip color.
Bomber: Can give a bomb to a player during odd-numbered day phases which is going to explode the following night. Cannot give bombs to his teammates.*
Doublespeaker: Each day, he can fake a lynch vote by sending the host their real vote. When this ability is used, his vote in the thread won't count. However, in order to use the ability, he is still forced to make a public vote as well.
Spy: During the night, he can visit a player and learn who visited them.
Crazy Chemist: On even-numbered nights, he can either kick the player they killed into a barrel of acid avoiding any kind of protection or burn the body and make the victim cardflip black.

Rebels of the Village
Detective: An inspector from the nearby town that has already been conquered by the despots. With his inspecting experience, he can learn a player’s color each night.
Dissector: Can anatomize a dead player and learn his exact role each night.
Medic: Has a good knowledge of healing people, which makes him able to protect a player from death each night. Has the ability to self-protect.
Guerilla: A partisan who handles guns very well. With his skills, he can kill a player each night. If he kills an innocent, his cardflip color will change to red for the following day and night phase.
Spokesman: A high-ranked rebel who can visit a player each night and send them a message via the game host.
Assistant: Has a bit of knowledge about a lot of things. Thus, he can visit a player each night to support them and make them able to use their ability twice. (has to make the decision during the previous day phase) Can't support the same player twice in a row.
Former Gangster: A former criminal who helps the village to take down the despots. He can roleblock a player each night. However, his criminal record makes him cardflip red.
Politician: A power-hungry but compassionate politician. His team of bodyguards protect him from being nightkilled.
Rebel
Rebel
Rebel
Rebel
Rebel
Rebel

The Fallen Politician
Dictator: A power-hungry, manipulative and merciless politician who was formerly the leader of the region but eventually got taken down by the people. His team of mercenaries protect him from being nightkilled and make him able to kill a player each night. With the power of propaganda, he can either: a) blackmail someone to prevent them from speaking for the following day phase b) make the player he killed cardflip black c) send a message to someone (similarly to the Spokesman) in order to distract them
General notes: show
- Role usage is optional
- If someone gets roleblocked, they'll be notified about that at the end of the phase. However, if they're protected but nobody attempted to kill them, they won't know they were protected
- If someone has nightkill immunity and there's a nightkill-attempt against them, it won't be revealed to the public. But if someone is protected and there's a nightkill-attempt against them, it'll be announced that someone tried to kill them. (even if they had nightkill-immunity to begin with)
Role-specific notes: show
- Bombs given by the Bomber: The targeted player will be alerted that they received and that they must kill someone with it. If they don't get rid of the bomb, they'll die.
- If the Former Gangster and the Assistant target the same player, the targeted player will be able to use their ability once (this is very unlikely to happen, but it's still mathematically possible), in other words, neither of the abilities will have an effect
- If the Tyrant roleblocks the player the Assistant visited, the player is still going to be completely roleblocked
- The Assistant cannot support the Guerilla
- If the Assistant somehow targets the Dictator, he won't get an extra kill, but he'll be able to use all 3 of his additional abilities at once.

Usually these sign-ups last for like a week or so, you have plenty of time to make a game.

Amnesiac - Can make a player forget their color for the rest of the game making them flip clear* for the rest of the game. They can not be nightkilled. May also kill someone every night. If the amnesiac targets a town they can still discuss with other town members but can not perform their other ability.
System wrote:_____(User) does not seem to exist somewhere, not even in the minds of their allies.

* - Clear, which is the same color as the Amnesiac.
Pseudo wrote:The Amnesiac's cardflip makes its name literally impossible to read against the white block background; I actually thought you hadn't given the third party a name at first. Please change it to something more clear, probably black.
Otherwise looks good, though. Approved.

Edit: thanks for the fixes

Mafia 38: Timewarp

Gameplay:
  • 16 Players
  • Cardflip (color shown on death)
  • No one knows who anyone else is unless specified
  • Regular lynching
Roles:

Mafia:
Artistic Mafioso: Has a vast knowledge of colors. Every night, he can find out what color a player is.
Mafioso: Total losers with no special abilities
Mafioso
Mafioso
Everyone in the Mafia know who their teammates are.
Goal: Outnumber the town and kill the Timelord if they are aligned with the Town.

Town:
Sheriff: Has a vast knowledge of his town. Every night, he can find out what color a player is.
Doctor: Posts Mercy fanart on Deviantart. Every night, they can save a player from death.
Assassin: Doesn't matter who, he just likes killin'. Every night, they can kill a player. If he kills someone on his team, he is restricted from killin' for one night.
Townsperson: Some idiots with no special abilities.
Townsperson
Townsperson
Illiterate Townsperson Some idiots with no special abilities who also can't read. Knows they're illiterate despite not being able to read this post.
Illiterate Townsperson
Illiterate Townsperson
Student: His student loans are so massive that he suffocated on them and turned blue. Has no special abilities. Doesn't know he's the student (too focused on his loans).
Con Artist: Likes to get into trouble, loves to get out of trouble. He can survive one nightkill. Knows he's a filthy con artist.
Goal: Kill all of the Mafiosos and the Timelord if they are aligned with the Mafia.

Third Party:
Timelord: Has a fascination with time manipulation (and TNT), and has the following abilities:
  • At the beginning of the game, he can choose to align with either the Town or the Mafia (not both, and not neither). This decision will be announced to everyone on Day 1 (game starts on Night 1), but won't reveal who he is (obviously). Depending on which team he aligns with, the opposite team will acquire a buff.
~If he aligns with the Town, the Artistic Mafioso can paint players Red, Green, Blue, or Purple. Cannot paint Mafiosos Blue.
~If he aligns with the Mafia, all three illiterate townspeople become doublevoters.

~Also, if he aligns with the Mafia, he knows who they are and the Mafia knows who he is.
  • Once throughout the entire game after Night 2, if he's alive, he can cause a massive time reversal. This will reset the game back to the previous phase (ex: Night 2 becomes Day 1), restoring ability cooldowns and colors from that phase (except the Timelord's own ability, of course). Roles and deaths are unaffected.
  • Can survive a single nightkill.
Goal: If the team he's aligned with wins, he win as well. If the Timelord dies, he automatically loses.

Other note: Anyone who survives a nightkill will also be mentioned in the daily obituary, but how they were saved will NOT be specified.

M39: THE SERIAL KILLER GETS REVENGE
-16 Players
-Cardflip
-Visiting

-After escaping the town to avoid getting lynched, the Serial Killer is back and now with a sort of terrorist like army to help him eradicate the town once and for all. It does not help that some of the town is now scared by the events that happened previously

Serial Killer's Army
Serial Killer: The Serial killer who returned to the town
Suicide Bomber: Can set off a bomb attached to him in a house he visits once per game. This kills everyone who is in the house at the time, including himself
Recruiter: Can recruit any Scared Townie once per game. Can also scare a normal Townie turning them into a Scared Townie each night.

Town
Mayor: Immune to nightkills
Sheriff: Can inspect 1 player per night
Doctor: Can protect 1 player per night
Vigilante: Can kill 1 player per night
Townie: Just a normal townie
Townie
Townie
Townie
Scared Townie: Cardflips orange and can be recruited into the Serial Killer's Army.
Scared Townie
Scared Townie
Farmer: The fact that he doesn't actully live in the town raises suspicion. Therefore he carflips red

Third Party
Assassin: An outsider who has been payed to murder 1 player per night. Each murder earns him £5
He can buy the following things during the night
  • £5: Can inspect a player
  • £10: Can disguise himself as any color, so he will cardflip the color of choice for the following day and night
  • £15: Can role block all players
Notes
Any ability that can only be used once will not successfully activate unless it targets the correct player(s)
When killing someone, the Serial Killer Army must send one of their player's to visit the person they want to kill
When using any ability in someone, it is considered a visit to that player
Pseudo wrote:I don't think the Recruiter should be able to transform townies into scared townies; the recruiting ability is already strong enough as-is, and there are already few normal townies.
In fact, I might add another normal townie or two, but it's not required.
Given the role list in this game and its other powers, the Assassin would get very little out of using other roles' abilities realistically.
The Assassin's disguising seems a bit too expensive; I wouldn't say that's worth the equivalent of 3 inspections. I would lower the price down to 10 pounds.
Otherwise looks good.

Edit: we're good

M39+ Terror is around every corner
20 Players(may be changed to 18 players if need be.)
The setting, the middle east. The Time, 2046. After the government fell a group of dangerous terrorists took control of the land. They have been supressing the population to follow their insane religious doctrines. Public executions and torture are happening around the clock for rediculous reasons. The military was sent to resolve the conflict. For now, they haven't succeeded however. Even though the military killed countless terrorists, it seemed like the number of deaths only became higher. When the military found out what was going on, it was already too late. An unknown warlord was recruiting people and using them to take control of the land himself. The soldiers, now trapped in two armed conflicts suddely had to deal with an even bigger threat to their lives.

Terrorists
-Captor: Can take someone hostage every night, roleblocking and inspecting them at the same time. Can only do this on the same player once.
-Suicide bomber: Can kill someone in a suicide attack once during the game. If someone is protecting the targetted player at night they will die too.
-Sadist: May use extreme violence on the mafia's kill victim every other night. Making them cardflip Black.
-Propagandist: May broadcast a message through the host every night. The message is indistinguishable from the journalist's.

The Military:
-General: May either protect, kill or roleblock someone every night. They cannot use the same ability twice in a row. Due to their high rank the general has a unique cardflip colour.
-Spy: Can use a drone to find out someone’s cardflip colour every night.
-Journalist: May broadcast a message through the host every night. The message is indistinguishable from the Propagandist’s.
-Rogue: Can kill someone without authorization every night, if they kill an innocent, they will lose their ability and cardflip red for a single night.
-Medic: May visit another player every night. Protecting them from death.
-Dissector: Can anatomize a dead player and learn their exact role every other night.
-Executioner: May once during the game either cancel the lynch or host a second one.
-Corporal: Lynch vote counts double.
-Soldier: Nothing special, can cast a lynch vote.
-Soldier:
-Soldier:
-Soldier:
-Soldier:
-Hated Soldier: A Soldier with a bad reputation. Thinks he is a regular soldier
-Outsider: A Soldier from a different unit, the other soldiers don’t trust him that much. Thinks he is a regular soldier.

Third Party:
-Warlord: May kill a player every night. If for some reason or another the kill attempt fails the target’s alignment and cardflip colour will be changed into that of the Warlord. The Warlord’s recruits will keep any ability they had before their conversion except for the the Sadist and the medic, they will lose their abilities. The General is immune to conversion by the Warlord. The Warlord cannot be nightkilled by anyone but the suicide bomber. The Warlord and his recruits win by being the last man/men standing or by outnumbering the town.
Additional Information: show
*All ability usage is optional
*If someone gets roleblocked they will be notified.
*If a kill attempt failed it will be announced to the public even if the failed kill attempt resulted in conversion by the warlord.
Role-specific information: show
*The Suicide Bomber's kill cannot be stopped by any means. Not even by nightkill immunity.
*The Propagandist and the Journalist's message can only contain up to 250 characters long and cannot contain fake death messages.
*The General cannot self-protect.
*The Medic can self-protect.
*If the executioner decides to host a second lynch the day will be extended by 12 hours, after that the night will go on as usual.
*Although unlikely, if the Suicide bomber and the Warlord target the same player while that player is protected. The Suicide Bomber's kill will be prioritized over the warlord's recruitment.
Pseudo wrote:The General seems a little too strong, especially with the large number of blues otherwise (including two inspection-type roles). I would suggest removing its inspection ability, the rest could stay and keep the role balanced.
Otherwise looks pretty good.

M??: The 8-Bits Take Over Subcon

Cardflip
19 Players
New Heart Mechanic
Lynching is Mandatory
Role Usage is Optional
Each player can go digging in a garden for an item each night(more info below)

After having had saved Subcon, the land of dreams from wart awhile back, Mario, Luigi, Peach, And Toad decide to pay subcon a visit, only to find that Wart has returned and has taken it over! They realize that to save Subcon once again, they’ll need to collaborate to take out members of the 8-bits one by one to get subcon back. But it seems that Wart won’t be handing it Back so easily. Meanwhile, a lone subcon tries to get subcon back to normal themselves, while also looking for help.

The Heroes
The Heroes get a collaborative nightkill, along with that they can also each attack another of the 8-bits each night, taking a heart from them under most circumstances
The heroes also need to decide who will visit someone to make the kill.

Mario: starts with 5 hearts, can check how many hearts a player has left each night. However, that player will be alerted that they were inspected.
Luigi: Mario’s brother, twice in the game he can go on to alert so that anyone that seeks to attack him, he’ll grab their projectile and throw it back at them, inflicting the damage on them that he would have originally taken.
Peach: She can distract a member of the 8-bits each night, disabling their ability.
Toad: Twice in the game, during either day or night, can switch out the next Subspace Mushroom a player picks up for a poison mushroom which will cause whoever picks it up to lose a heart rather than get their health extended and fully restored.

The 8-Bits

Wart: Starts with 5 Hearts, is able to shoot bubbles at a player each night, taking away two of their hearts, if a vegetable is thrown at him on a night his mouth is open, he loses two hearts.
Mouser: Can give a player a bomb each night.
Tryclyde: Thanks to having three heads, they can watch a player and learn who visited them each night.
Inspector Guy: Can Inspect a player each night to learn their color.
Mystic Ninji: every other night, he can heal someone by a heart.
Shopkeeping Ninji: Can hide someone inside their shop each night, protecting them from harm and abilities that
night phase. Once in the game, they can lock all ways in to protect themselves from any kind of interaction with others. They start with 3 veggies,
but each time they protect someone, they must give them one of their veggies or other items.
Shy Guy: Regular Townie, each start with one veggie
Shy Guy
Shy Guy
Shy Guy
Shy Guy
Shy Guy

Nice Guy: Acts a bit too nice for being one the bad side so they flip as blue. Thinks their a regular shy guy.
Beezo: Could be mistaken for a subcon, so flips as Gold. Knows they are the Beezo.

Third Party

Subcon:
They are able to attack two people each night, taking away two hearts from one, and killing the other, they can choose who dies, and who loses hearts. If any of the heroes target them or visit them, they’ll be recruited on the side of the Heroes. They can also inspect someone each night as well. They start with 5 Hearts. They can't be nightkilled either, if they are recruited to the hero side, they can't attack AND inspect in one night, they need to choose, they also will only be able to attack one person and take away two hearts once recruited.

Win Condtions
The Heroes: have an equal, or higher amount of heroes left than 8-bits and win alongside the third party.
The 8-Bits: Eliminate all the heroes and the Third party
Third Party: Win alongside the heroes or by being the last player standing.

Game Mechanics
Spoiler: show
Heart Mechanic
Each player starts the game with three hearts(with a few expections), the way it works is that you’ll be notified on how many hearts you lost at the end of a night phase. If a player has one heart left, their lynch vote won’t count, if their heart count reaches 0, then they die. They can pick up a subspace mushroom to fully restore their hearts and increase their maximum hearts by one. The max number of hearts is 5.

Digging Mechanic
Each night, all players can choose to go digging in a garden, with several different outcomes, this is the chance of each outcome:
Finds a veggie – 90%
Finds a Subspace Potion – 10%

Garden digging can be done in the same night as regular things such as ability usage, etc.
Items
Spoiler: show
Subspace Potion
Sends you to subspace.

Subspace Mushroom
You’ll grab this while in subspace and restore two hearts.

Bomb
You can blast a player with this, taking away two hearts.

Veggie
You can throw this at a player, taking a heart from them.

Heart
Replenishes a heart point
Pseudo wrote:Having the game be based around an RNG mechanic is not great. I appreciate the digging mechanic for its SMB2ness but I would replace it with something non-RNG based, such as an item distributing role.
The Subspace Mushroom is also too powerful (even being super rare as it is); it should not increase the player's health at the very least. Again, I appreciate the SMB2ness but that doesn't necessarily translate well to a Mafia game.
The Subcon is too weak; I'd allow it to do more than just 1 damage per night. I'd also remove the town-recruitment mechanic as that'd kind of suck if you were on a roll as the third party.

Edit: First two issues are fixed but I still contend that the Subcon needs to be significantly buffed; it should be able to take at least 2 or 3 hearts per night, if not just outright kill other players.
Edit 2: Approved.

Hey guys, just for future reference, you don't have to post a reserve (there are no spots to fill really lol), and you don't have to copy over previous GM reviews, since that stuff just gets re-reviewed anyway.

M39+: Luigi's Fight for the Underground Village

Obsessed as always by his neverending thirst for unlimited richness, Wario and his cronies have attacked the peaceful underground village of toads who have lived peacefully mining mineral deposits for centuries. Now Wario has built up a strong fortress together with a few loyal toads and now he tries to take over the rest of the village too. But as if that wasn’t terrible enough, they accidentally freed a zombie enclosed deep in the ground, who now wants to take revenge and curse every person alive.

Cardflip, 17 players
Enhanced vanilla roles
- each vanilla townie, as well as Wario and the TP, receive two items for the game. The remaining special roles can't use items.
Doctor savings are announced, but any other failed attempts on someone's life are not.
If you're dead, keep paying attention to the game, chances are the Psychic Toad wants to seance you.

Wario and his lackeys

Wario: Leader of the outlandish, can temporarily disable a player’s items for the night, and can use items himself.
Devil Toad: Can bring down the first person to visits them together with him, unless he's the last mafioso remaining.
Wizard Toad: Can paint a person to make them cardflip black, and can additionally control their vote (without them knowing). Magnifier and Tanooki Suit don't work on a painted player. Painting wears off the next night. Can't paint the person that the mafia wants to kill.
Cat Toad: Can inspect a player.

The mafia must always choose a member to visit the player they want to kill collaboratively.
Instead of becoming doomed souls, mafia members die if the zombie is after them.

The toad village

Luigi: Patron of the village, can reveal his role to a player at night. Can’t be killed or converted Night 1.
Captain Toad: Leader of the toads, can inspect a player at night (in which case nothing happens).
Gunsmith Toad: Can kill at night. If they kill someone innocent (except for Red and Purple Toad), they can’t kill for the next night.
Tanooki Toad: Protects a player against nightkill (but not conversion).
Psychic Toad: Can have a seance (Discord communication) with a dead player every even-numbered night. Target must be announced to the host on the day before. Can’t be killed or converted Night 1.
Green Toad: Starts the game with two random items. (no steady ability)
Green Toad
Green Toad
Green Toad
Green Toad
Red Toad
Purple Toad

The undead

Zombie: Converts a player to a doomed soul each odd-numbered night. If he targets an outlandish, he’ll kill them instead. Immune to nightkills. Starts with two items.
Doomed Soul: Has one nightkill available. Not nightkill-immune and can't convert themselves. Keeps items and can still receive items from dead players if they originally started with items.

Items: The game contains 18 items. If a player with items dies, their items will be randomly distributed over the people alive who can use items. There’s no limit on how many items you can use for a night.
  • Tanooki Suit: Investigate whether a player is a vanillager, or receive three potential roles if they’re special (counts as visit). x2
  • Magnifier: Investigate whether a player is a special or what items they possess (counts as visit). x2
  • Ballot paper: Gain an additional vote for the next day. x4
  • Burglar alert: Reveal everyone who visits you at night. x3
  • Wiretap: Eavesdrop on another player to see who visits them (counts as visit). x3
  • Pinned Message: Post an anonymous message (if you don’t die) or a public last will (in case you die) at phase shift. x2
  • Crystal Ball: Effect a roleflip on a player if they die in the same night or the following day (doesn't count as visit, can’t be used on yourself). x2

M____ Virus Alert

Computer Viruses (collectively get 1 kill, wins by elminating Biological viruses)

ILOVEYOU An email based virus that is so common that it is immune to nightkills
Zeus A trojan virus, appears to be a normal file when Inspected
Conficker Its name comes from the English word, configure and a German pejorative, it`s a malware virus, so it can cause ads to pop up and prevent a player from using their ability
CIH The Chernobyl virus (also known as CIH) triggers on April 26th each year, the anniversary of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster. It overwrites a chip inside a PC effectively paralysing the entire computer, In game it just makes players unable to vote the next day

Biological Viruses (wins by elminating computer viruses)

White Blood Cell It can kill one player each night, ironically looses it's abilty for a day if it kills a biological virus
Red Blood Cell Can protect a player each night
Immune System Can infect (it's a pun, don't panic) a player to learn their colour
Sensitive Immune System Can inspect a player each night, but red and green colours are flipped, thinks they're immune system
Supervirus Simply a virus that is resistant to cures, immune to nightkills
Cas9 A CRISPR thingy, can see who has visited a player
Common Cold There are 200 different strains of cold, Which is why it's the equalvent of a townie
Common Cold

Flu A very fast evovling virus, so fast infact that it's managed to infect computers too and appears as red when inspected, doesn't know they are the flu

Mechanics

Cardflip - There is no roleflip here

Corruption - Viruses may choose to recruit (or corrupt if you prefer) a player into joining their team during the night, They do not get two kills if they recruit a killing role, and they can only recruit one person, ever.
