Adding graphics instead of replacing them in 2.0?

Y'know, I've heard something about being able to actually add your own blocks, NPCs, effects, and such in 2.0 instead of actually replacing them. It'd be really helpful to know how if it is possible.

It's possible using dummy blocks, which you can give unique behaviour using LUA (I think)

NPCs, you need beta four, and you have to program them yourself, as for blocks, I do not know how to do that.

Blocks it currently can't be done, but 1) you're probably not using all existing blocks right now 2) I'm also hoping for additional block slots, I need them before my clear pipes can be in 2.0 basegame.
