John Henry Bonham, the drummer for Led Zeppelin. His birthday is today, he would be 68, but he passed away September 25, 1980 due to alcohol overdose. He was a legend of his own time and he still is a legend, recognized as one of the best drummers of all time, by many, the best drummer of all time. He's not in my A-list as role models, but I deeply admire him and thought he did a damn good job fitting in with John Paul Jones.
Here's a short little video to show him off.
Discuss fallen rockers/musicians/stars for a little while. Why didn't I put this in the musical discussion thread? Because no actual discussion ever happens in that topic.
Brian Johnson just retired because of hearing issues (he's going deaf). When I heard that my heart skipped a beat, ACDC is one of my favorite music groups. Hope and pray that they find a worthy successor to this modern legend.
Wow, I totally missed out on Bonzo's birthday. Same day as a friend of mine, same month as mine.
He definitely was an amazing and innovative drummer for his time but I think there are some drummers today that can do more than he did (like Neil Peart or Mike Portnoy). Of course it was Bonham who laid the foundation for modern rock drumming so a lot of these other great drummers owe a lot to him.
