First of all, I didn't even realize that this game had a community. It was very surprising when I just found a out a few minutes ago by coming to this site that I was wrong. As far as I knew before, this was a project that redigit created and was canned because of legalities. Now I have questions, anyone willing to lend a hand?
1. I read somewhere that there are 3 new versions: 2.0, 1.3.0.2, and 1.4. Also the home page still says 1.3.0.1. What on earth is going on?
2. Redigit is no longer working on this right?
3. I got this game using a torrent. I didn't realize there was a website. Didn't Nintendo like, ban this game on copyright grounds or something?
4. Does this project have a future/is it growing?
5. Is there a continuation of the episode "Invasion 2" or anything new by the creator of the episode?
6. Where is the action at/what are some cool things you guys are currently doing?
7. Recommended Episodes/levels?
8 Anything else I should know?
Thank you in advance.

1. The SMBX community has made multiple fan-made updates.
SMBX 2.0 includes LunaLua and a bunch of other jazz. Click this link to check it out.
SMBX 1.4 was created by a Chinese developer and features new content like NPCs. Unfortunately, it isn't supported on these forums.
SMBX 1.3.0.2, as far as I know, is just SMBX 1.3.0.1 with LunaLua. Correct me if I'm wrong.
2. Yes.
3. Nintendo issued a C&D and forced Redigit to take down the original website. The community relaunched the website themselves a few years later.
4. SMBX 2.0 and SMBX 1.4 are both being worked on. Redigit himself also showed up on the forums recently but we haven't heard anything about his appearance ever since. More information here.
5. http://www.smbxgame.com/forums/v ... =34&t=6567
6. The Spring Vanilla Level Contest 2016 is currently accepting submissions. The Community Contest 12 just recently ended; Chad won. You can see the topics of both contests pinned to the top of the forums.
7. N/A
8. Check out LunaLua. It allows you to code some pretty complex stuff into your levels that wouldn't be possible with standard SMBX. The possibilities are endless.
Lua is an actual script language, which supports custom functions, variables and much more. The script type is something like JavaScript + Visual Basic

I think I can answer some of your questions
1.The 1.4 is made by a fan, is not an official version so anything that version is not supported in this forum. The 1.3.0.1 is the version we all use and apparently, that we will always use. Of the 2.0 and 1.3.0.2 I do not have much information
2. No, Redigit is retired after receiving a complaint from Nintendo
3. Not answered
4. Not answered
5. Yes, it is being created by the community, you can search on "projects"
6. Some contests like the Spring Vanilla of this year
7. You can search and see which ones catch your eye
8. Yes, I not recommend spamming or bump topics just to get a rank, you can get banned

1. 1.3.0.2 is the same version of SMBX used in 2.0. The way 2.0 is different is by also including a new launcher, new characters and NPCs (native inclusion is being worked on) and using the PGE editor as the main editor.
4. Both the developer of 1.4.* and the developers of 2.0 are working on the respective versions.
5. If you're looking for something by the creator of that episode, it's very unlikely you will find anything. However, Dracyoshi provided a link to a community-driven sequel.

Hey, kooper, welcome to the forums!
Everything Dracyoshi said is pretty much spot on. SMBX 2.0 is the next version due for release after 1.3.0.1 - we don't know when it's going to be released, yet, but at the present moment that's the path we're on. 2.0 is currently in the open beta stage, and you can download it from its announcement thread. This version heavily utilizes the LunaLua system (which, as Dracyoshi said, is something you should check out) to make modifications to the game. "1.3.0.2" is what people call the modified version of SMBX that contains LunaLua, and "1.4.X" is what people call a build that has been made by a Chinese developer. There is a thread for LunaLua, but we're currently not offering help and support for the Chinese build here.

By the way, one of the primary issues with SMBX 1.4 is that it's not actualy part of the SMBX line - it's a close recreation of the official version's game mechanics but is built from the ground up. This means that it doesn't use the same level file format as 1.3 and its derivatives (for the record, 1.3 was the last version made by Redigit - 1.3.0.x and 2.0 both build on it by hacking the .exe and LunaLua, in the case of 2.0), so it doesn't really mesh with them very well.

SMBX 1.3 is final version, 1.3.0.1 is out-program updated version.
1.4 is fan-made version, if you interested in it, you can go http://wohlsoft.ru/forum to find that, there supports 1.4
2.0 is LunaLua version but more new things.

Those were all made using LunaLua.

what do you mean? Of course you have to put loadAPI in your lua code so things will work. This applies to like every lua API thing in existense.
