Mini Marco Isle Tileset

Postby DarwintheNameless » Thu Jan 28, 2016 9:01 pm

Another one of my year-old graphics that I plan to include in my GFX Pack update, but for now I'm gonna be releasing one thing at a time instead of holding it off until there's enough content.

Interesting backstory behind this one: I remember this one time when I was thinking about Toad Strikes Back and its sequel, Toadette Strikes (Which for those who don't know, are both really cool Mario fangames you can find on MFGG that I recommend playing if you love SMB2). I was thinking about how both games' graphical styles seem to make use of heavily edited sprites from other Mario/non-Mario games, yet made them blend in so perfectly. As I was thinking about this, I started tinkering with some SMB2 & 3 Graphics and ended up with a rather small, but interesting tileset. After that, I experimented a little with the graphics, and realized that the NPCS seemed to look kinda small when put on the surface... like some sorta Giant Land level. Then more inspiration struck, and I expanded the tileset with a miniscule version and some block sizeables, ending up with what would be known as "Mini-Marco Isle".

This tileset can be useful for Giant-themed levels, especially ones that feature a size-switching gimmick like in SM64's "Tiny-Huge Island".

Well, I can say that these graphics look great, I like the touch on the giant-mini versions as well, although with the SMB3 grass used on the "Giant" version, it creates very slight cutoff, although I don't think many people will actually notice that. Also, for some reason, the "Mini" version's ground appears to cutoff due to assembly in your screenshot in various places (Most noticeable around the box blocks). But still, I like these!

Looks nice! Also reminds me of Mini-Mega land from NewerSMBW. Blocks are well done and its also very creative. That little goomba is cute.
