Spinjumpable Ball N' Chain Spire

Postby Imaynotbehere4long » Sun Feb 09, 2014 12:52 pm

Sometime around January of 2014, I was informed that there have been no spinjumpable Ball 'N Chains in any SMBX level, so I decided to rectify that. As you can see by the screenshot, my Ball 'N Chains can be spin-jumped on! They're even resistant (but not immune, unfortunately) to hammer attacks! Just download the level and spin-jump to your heart's content.

Spoiler: show
If you have trouble getting past this first Ball 'N Chain, try to land on it when it reaches the bottom of its spin, then follow it to the next platform. For some reason, sometimes, if you spin-jump on it after it passes the bottom and try to follow it, you'll get hurt and fall through.

Although the level can be beaten with Mario, Luigi, and Toad (the ones that CAN spin-jump), I was informed by Aeon that this was better suited in the graphics thread.

This is certainly interesting, splendid for SMW-styled castles, and could be used underwater as a gimmick, too. Now, if only someone could construct a SMB3-styled version... hmm. Anyway, did you rip this? Sure seems congruent to the original one featured in Super Mario World, comparing and contrasting their similarities. And yeah, out of anxiety, does this replace the Roto-Disc (if that's how you spell it), or what?

Thanks, but...is it even possible to rip a sprite's collision boundary? I didn't rip the graphics, if that's what you were asking; that would go to Red Yoshi.

Well, I guess you'll just have to download the level and find out! ;)

Okay, I will say that it's not a Roto-Disc sprite swap for two reasons:
1) It can't be spin-jumped on.
2) It limits the length of the Ball N' Chains. My level has Ball N' Chains of varying lengths.

It replace the SMB3 platform (within nohurt=0) and a background.

I discovered a bug: If you are Racoon Mario and spinjump to a ball without getting hurt, you can "kill" something (that I don't know what is) and after you can't spinjump on the ball.

It's not a SMB3 platform. And yeah, it can be killed by hammers, Kuribo's Shoe, various projectiles like Koopa shells and it can be hit with the racoon tail. You can make the whole thing disappear from the ball's death to fix the fact that it remains and stops being hurtful when killed, but you can't make it immortal. You have to choose between spinjumpability and immortality. If you don't want it to be killable, replace a nohurt=0 donut block.
