The August Contest I'll be hosting will be the vertical level contest. This pretty much means that the level must involve traveling up or down to complete it. So examples would include: scaling a mountain, tower climbing, descending down a cave, climbing a volcano with lava chasing you, escaping an avalanche, etc, etc. Hopefully a lot of you will be interested in this one for being the most flexible of my contests so far.
People requested some extra time, so the final deadline is Saturday the fifth. Judging will be as quick as possible still too so this won't interfere with my other contests.
RULES
Don't put your name in any of the files
Don't post any screenshots of the level nor a download link in the comments
You must submit your level before the deadline.
You may only submit one level, if you send two levels the second will be disqualified.
No joke levels, joke levels will not be judged.
Give your level a unique name. Nothing random or funky though.
Any level theme accepted (forest, ice, mountain, lava, etc)
Level can end in any fashion.
Custom Graphics are allowed
Custom Music is optional
Adding a boss is optional

Hopefully that's not too too strict
Autocscroll levels allowed
Moving left or right is allowed, but it must be at most half the amount of vertical movement (the point is vertical movement should be significantly greater than horizontal, pm me with issues on this)

Sub-Zero Sewers
So this is a pretty appealing level. It has nice smb3 music to go with the underground theme. The level is also an ice theme so the ice cannons are a nice touch too. I found the ice brothers section to be a little too simple, but I do appreciate the idea; there’s probably a better way to approach this section to make more enjoyable. I recommend moving the pipe that’s shooting the fire flowers to a lower position with the fire flowers spawning upward so there isn’t a huge amount of them shooting down nonstop. Pipes that shoot ice blocks upward or downward are irrelevant for they can’t injure you at all. Lastly, ending the level is impossible because the closing section is on level-wrap for some reason, which is kinda funny though. It’s a very short level that I would consider playing again, but it needs some work. Nice job.

Sky Skating
Another appealing level. The Kirby music goes well with this level. It feels pretty joyful while playing it, and the atmosphere is positive. I like the slow auto-scroll for this as well as the roller-skates you can ride on. With the roller-skating, it’s deceiving to do this as Link for he doesn’t crouch fully, but I know the pipe is fine for other characters (and they can all get past it still. Eventually the level will be mad-hard to pull off with Link though, so I don’t recommend using him. There’s a chance of you getting cheap-shotted by a red koopa in the beginning too. There are some jumps where you have to time it really well to make sure you don’t die. This level is relatively short, and it’s not bad.

Cold Heights
Smb1 graphics eh? They look good. This level plays really well too. The first half of the level just had great visuals and nice platforming. It has good difficulty with it, and I didn’t notice many issues with the level besides the snow ball thing that replaces the bully graphic (I forget the name of, but I recognize it from smb2 at least XD haha) in the area where it’s trapped in ice blocks. There’s also an ice goomba that’s hard to kill without taking a hit or nailing the crouch button well. This was a quality level, and I only wish the song was different. It’s fitting, but I’m just so sick of hearing it (I will not take off points for this). Great job!

Too Very High Cliff To Scramble
The graphics were messed up with this level due to the title of the level file being different from the folder, so I fixed that for you. I noticed some unfitting and 1-bit graphics too with this level. This music does seem decently fitting for a rock climbing level to me, but it’s pretty intense. Watch spelling and grammar on signs too (if my reviews are poor in grammar and spelling, let me know; I don’t really proofread these for grammatical perfection most of the time. Getting past the opening here, this was another really well-done level. The graphics are really awesome, and I really enjoyed trying to get past all of the strange enemies. The mini-boss sections were really nice touches too. The difficulty is spot on too! I really felt like I was on a death-defying journey to make it to the top, with the turrets shooting at me and giant crows destroying the vines. I’m confused with seeing the green dog riding a dildo, but whatever. Outside of the issues of naming the level after the folder with the graphics, I really enjoyed this level. I’ll definitely play this again in the future. I expect great things to come from you!
I would be interested in seeing a variation of this level too with the level autoscrolling upwards. I think that’d make the level have more stress to it that’d make it fun. Otherwise amazing job!

Tall Thwomp Ruins
The title flatters me greatly. I was actually over there last weekend visiting my old pal Brian. Fortunately he wasn’t in the level for me to kill, so no worries. Dang this is the third really good level in a row. It’s probably the best looking too. The level plays decently well with good-difficulty too. The first of the level is definitely much shorter than the second half, so I kinda wish there was more to it with this one. The level is still great with few errors, but it did seem to be cut too short. Still, good job though.

Sewer Scramble
Starting the level off, I’m unsurprised to see a Toad lock itself out of the house. I mean they make a lot of stupid mistakes. Anyway this will mess with your eyes a little bit, so be wary of what’s actually not gonna hurt you. Okay the visuals aren’t that difficult to differentiate, but it’s not bad looking level. It’s incredibly short, and you’re just going in a horse-shoe kind of pattern. It can be really difficult with all of the piranha plants too shooting fireballs at you too, so you’ll need to be good at dodging while progressing through the tight space. It’s not too too enjoyable, but it’s not bad.
3.2/10
Spiral Cavern
Accurate title for the first section. This level shoots out a few themes at you throughout and one section that isn’t vertical at all, so the score shall be lowered for that. This still plays pretty nice, and it has good visuals that lack bgo’s though. The level ends quickly too, which again short levels can be good if it can leave an impact. This level failed to impress, and I don’t plan on playing it again. Nice try though.
