interestingly, the level with 3 wolves didn't have a checkpoint, but the one right after, the one with 2 wolves had one.
Fort Fungus, the most frustrating without the checkpoint so far, lost 10 lives, but made about 40 because of the bonus rooms.
My way of completing: get to the yoshi, go left, grab the steak, go to the left bonus door and yoshi jump to it, get the tanooki, go to the beginning and fly upwards to the 3up and clown car, use the clown car and the key to beat the bird, yoshi jump without using peach or Luigi, get the 1ups, go inside the castle and beat the boss.
Can I get the list of levels with a secret exit from worlds 1 through 5?

Uhh, I appear to be stuck at the world 5 ghost house. after entering the boss door, nothing happens. there is a blue door surrounded by walls and that's it.

I know 2 star, 4 star. 8 9 and 12 star ones and genie gate
out of the ones I didn't unlock, I only saw a 15 star one. where are the rest located?
Frying pan flambi gives me a runtime error 9: subscript out of range each time I start it. making it one of the 3 levels impossible to beat in my playthrough including the intro level and W5 ghost house.
the error is caused when too many things are happening at one screen. ex. enemy spam, powerup spam etc. or mushroom falling in lava glitch. However this error is fixed in smbx2 so I guess I should move my playthrough to there?
ported to smbx2, will probably continue there from now on, the level is no longer giving me the error.
edit: after porting to smbx2, all checkpoints are working. I'll start a new save to see if the mushroom genie is there in the intro level
edit: yep, the intro level is working. must have been some weird issue with smbx 1.3. only impossible level so far is W5 ghost house then.
EDIT: replayed ambush and world 5 ghost house, both work now. ambush spawns a key and the world 5 ghost house now spawns enemies that when you kill the door opens up.
interestingly, the game's most broken on the version it's most recommended to play on :p
uhh, how do you damage the lazy nutcase boss? I completed it with the help of an ice flower, also, why is the hitbox at the bottom?
this episode uses a lot of old songs ( mr. sandman, leader of the pack etc.) why's that?
speaking of musical themes, what's the theme that appears a lot in cloud levels, first time appeared in world 1 in John Silver or something like that.
The castle seems a bit bland for a star level. maybe make another section for the star?
