M7: Host Sign-Ups

The popular forum game that separates the good from the bad, the strong from the weak, and the loose-cannon cops from the slightly schizophrenic. That's all after we figure out who's who, of course.

We generally hate faction games, that's why.
Why? We never said we do. I personally know you don't but no one else says they aren't allowed.
I know they're allowed but I know quite a few people here who dislike faction games.
They completely defeat the purpose of Mafia IMO.

They're still fun, you don't have to discourage people to not participate in them.

Still, I don't think his particular faction game would be very fun in particular.
A good faction game would be totally different from normal Mafia.

Also, I don't think GMs have to get their games approved. They can technically approve their own game.

You game creators will be biased toward your own games, no matter if they are good or not. Thats why we need people who know what is needed in games to decide what can be used as a stable game to be played.

Shouldn't GMs, as technical staff members, be able to be unbiased from their own games?

If you're submitting Monofia, I'm just going to say that:

1: Hosting twice in a row seems a bit much
2: why do you make games that are so drastically different from normal mafia that they defeat the purpose of it

Sorry if I sounded rude, but others share my concern as well (I'm looking at TNTtimelord)

Thats just your opinion, and I said in my post that I don't exactly want to host it, just participate in it.

Why even submit it though, if people like it they will volunteer to host it, which nobody has.

Also, about why I don't like Valtries's game:
1. Faction games are boring, and people are really inactive in them (see M3)
2. We have way too much interest to host another 9-player game. In that case we might as well host another 15-player game at the same time, because I guarantee that a 9-player game won't fly with so much interest.

Ok, I'm not submitting mine. I was gone for a while doing stuff, and I don't think mine would be that good anyway. I'll just wait till player signups...

In a PM to my fellow game masters regarding Blue Dread's game suggestion, I wrote:Personally, I dislike the money gimmick. And as far as games in general, mafia is suffering from spectacle creep (every game has to be more amazing than the previous) at the moment, and I'm afraid that might be turning away players that would enjoy the game otherwise. At the same time it makes it extremely difficult for new players to get to learn the game and know what's going on.

That said, the money mechanic could potentially work, but we need to ask ourselves what it adds to the game and whether it will be fun or over-complicate things.

I feel like faction games could work in the future if they are done right. This one, for example, likely isn't going to be fun. It's just kind of random in my opinion.

I'm not sure if I'll have to talk it over with Joey or just the Game Masters, but it's possible in the future that we'll set things up so that more than one game can be in motion at a time. For now, though, I think we're going to try to get a 15-25 player game going. 25 is a stretch I think. It'll be difficult to meet that number with excited players.

Given the amount of games we currently have suggested (5 or 6 if you count the faction one which was solely approved by Blue Dread I think and not 2/3 of us?), I think we'll set up a poll 2 hours* from this post (24 hours from the start of this thread). There, we'll hold voting for 24 hours* and then give the host the go-ahead.

Just noticing you capitalized my username wrong.
^ but please try to do it right in the future ;)

I agree with most of the points made here.
Anyway, it seems my game has quite a bit of support. From my point of view, it adds a gimmick without overusing it (though I'm biased to myself anyway lol) and manages to stay true to vanilla Mafia while making the game new and interesting.

Hmm... I think we have enough games. I don't know, I just think 3-4 is enough, because no one else has been submitting any. Usually host signups don't last longer than a day... At least from my experience.
But that's for the Game Masters to decide. I just want to be able to play Mafia this time... I really don't have luck at all. Everyone is in a different time zone, and all the game signups are made when I am asleep, and at one time in my life, I almost started trying to be nocturnal just to play mafia (and other forum games) on another site because I was addicted to them and I had so much fun, but i missed all of the signups... I haven't played mafia in forever, and I have so much interest for it.
Either I have terrible luck, or everybody lives in the same place. Good thing I'm in the U.S. now.

I swear, I once tried signing up for a game on another forum, and within 2 minutes of the signups being made, all the spots were filled.

If I win host signups, I'll reserve your spot as I know you've wanted to play since at least M4 and have never gotten to.

Listen, I was the only GM active for most of today, I couldn't just let them get held back by two other inactive GMs that only come around the second half of the day. I did my job and approved whatever games I thought were qualified.

Yeah, good idea, just to get any last minute games get sent in to get reviewed. Either one of us can add a poll at that time.

Or Pseudo, since he's usually on around that time of day.

I reviewed around 6 games today. Not sure how many Pseudo has done in his little intervals of being online throughout the day.

He's usually on in the evening/early night CST.
