Huh? What PixelPest said is inherent with any form of reputation or upvoting. You can't say "I'd like forum rep but without popular members getting more rep." That is just not realistic.
I suppose you would also say "'I'd support the KKK if it weren't for racism."

Your making assumpations WAY too fast, i didn't throughly read what he said, so your saying i support that group for something i said on a forum?
that is making way too many assumpations, so what sense does that even make?

I didn't say that. Please read more carefully, and don't make "assumpations" yourself.

Then again though, people will fish for upreps and change the way they post (not necessarily for the better like it should work with downreps) and we'd end up with a kind of shit system. With the reasons for having an uprep that Nien described, they can be done now without the mod if people just spoke up in threads instead of circle jerking in private about it.
The only way i can imagine a way to fish for reps would be to make posts that appeal to more people. If that happens, what's the problem?
Also, if people just spoke up in threads, it'd be an even bigger problem. Instead of it being semi-private circlejerk, it'd just be public circlejerk, just like reddit.

Fishing for upreps doesn't necessarily mean posts will be more appealing as you say. I mean you used the example of "fuckign dumpster the living shit out of some troublemaking kiddo in a thread about mario brothers." This would actually happen, and I don't think it would be good to embolden people to throw shit at each other for the upreps. The negatives outweigh the positives imo; it's too easy to be abused.

Upreps (aka thumbs up) are cool to have. That would give credit to awesome posts (e.g. LDing guides) that you couldn't give somehow else (at the latest since Medals are gone).
It may leave a few space for abuse if e.g. someone thumbs up all posts of a thread for fun (basically all of the "what you shall not uprate for" things), but it's barely doing any damage compared to abused downreps and eventually mods can still take care of odd upreps, should it become necessary. People just shouldn't be overly competitive about it. Besides, I don't ever recall complaints about thumbs up from runouw.com.
It's worth a try. (Just do a poll to be safe)

For the upreps, maybe you could disable the commenting section... I don't know if it's a bad or good thing however.

Up-reps are not the same thing as liking a post; up-reps are more like liking a user. (Rep --> reputation)

Rep is unfortunately not coming back because that software is not compatible with the board software. If there's a large demand for post liking then I can look into it.

I'm in for post liking a guess. It would be nice if there wasn't post disliking though

Yeah, the post liking is good enough. I can maybe set up a poll later.

Agreed. I feel that post liking is better than rep. It tends to cause less anger.

I'd actually like to have it in a way that you see how many likes / thumbs up a user has given and received, but if it's just displaying how many likes a post has got, that works out as well.
It's actually not necessary to talk about "reputation" in general. You just thumb up a post because you find it helpful or awesome or sophisticated etc. It works in most cases.

The reason why people are mentioning "reputation" is that we used to have a reputation system, where a user had a number displayed on their profile that could be increased or decreased on a post basis (i.e. you would "uprep" someone for a good post they made).

That was until the great downrep war of 2014 spiked everyone to not like the system and I went from like +11 to +6 and krazykat got banned and i got a board warning and yeah those were fun times but I still dislike the downrep wars that happened, lol
However an all uprep system would be cool, but would we all get to keep our upreps we had in the past if it was to be used again or would you reset it?

I don't think it can be retraced.
On Runouw there was also a reputation system with up-and-downreps and it didn't last even two months; however it was replaced directly with an uprate-only-system (aka the thumbs-up system)

They would probably be reset. The boards got wiped after the reputation mod was removed, and I don't think joey backed up the data.

I hate to shitpost and go offtopic for a second but I must because PMing is just too annoying; but you are from Runouw?
How is Caitlin(MP3 Amplifier) doing? Is she still the GMod there? I ask because we had relations once upon a time and Im always curious about how she is doing. Can you tell her that "AzErOtH" said hi? Thanks dood.
Anyways regarding the actual topic at hand, yeah. You probably are right and it would reset but it would be neat if it hadnt just to remind everyone where they stood back in 2014.
