alright itSF UCKING 6 AM AND I LOOKED THROUGH MY OLD PMS and now i realized that the rep system had one great thing about it
possitive reps
this forum is nowhere near handling negative reps, as it just becomes a massive chain of negative reps between butthurt children
however
Possitive reps was a really fucking nice thing honestly. I never saw any problems with possitive reps, and since half the actual members are gone from this forum, i think it's hard for bias to take place.
It just felt so good. Seeing some stranger appreciate the fact that you just fuckign dumpstered the living shit out of some troublemaking kiddo in a thread about mario brothers, it just made you feel like you were on the top of the u n i v e r s e.
And since this forum isn't getting a like button anytime soon (because joey has social media ptsd or some shit), it's also a good way to compliment someone's message without outright posting "Wow! This dude is sooo cool!" on the thread.
Here's the deal sirs administrators sirs: i will literally give you theoretical money if you add the rep system, but with possitive reputations only. I think it'd be Just Great!
And in case your name isnt red, what do you think of this idea?

In case the topic of incompatibility comes up: talkhaus lets you like posts and I'm pretty sure they're running the same software as we do.
I'd like to see something like this implimented, though I'm leaning more towards just letting people give a thumbs up to individual posts to show that they approve of something.

I think it might work. I like the idea of up-reps only, however of course it could still cause some controversy likely, since some people won't get up-reps even if they deserve them, or be up-repped even if they don't necessarily deserve it. I don't overly like these popularity contest concepts, however I would be willing to try it out and see how it goes, since I joined after it was removed the first time.
I agree with Enjl as well--liking posts would be cool. I don't think there should be an option to dislike posts, but that could work nicely, since it may not be directly correlated with a user's popularity

yeah. I think only up repping is a great idea. Although liking posts would be cool too. I mean, even the lego message boards has a like button, and they're pretty strict.

the like button idea has been stated multiple times, but joey thinks it'll turn this forum into "social media" for... some reason

We're not talkhaus. Talkhaus isn't perfect, but they are much more better with the special users problem than we are from when I was lurking. This forum can not handle nice things at all.

You could say the same about the Rank system in a way.

The rank system just counts your posts. It by no means states how much you've contributed and no one does or doesn't deserve the rank they have. They're not even really ranks, it even says, "Posts"

I like the idea, but I'm pretty sure Joey doesn't - this has been brought up several times before and always ended with "not happening."

I personally appreciate the positive reputation system for the same reasons Nien said - but I can also understand why it might be better not to implement it at this time.

This is stupid. If you don't get reps then you don't deserve them. If you do get reps, then you do deserve them. If people decide on their own that they want to give you rep, how do you not deserve it? Likewise, if people decide on their own that they don't want to give you rep, who's to say you deserve their rep? What makes a post "entitled" to rep?

I'm trying to say that it'll be a big popularity scam, which it shouldn't be imo

You call this a scam? Might as well call Youtube a popularity scam, and everything else with a rating system. I mean, it's true that "popular" people will get more recognition, but that's to be expected anywhere. At least people wouldn't get downvoted to oblivion in this system.

I don't think "deserve" is the right word here, because Ace is right: people decide on their own what deserves a rep. Then again though, people will fish for upreps and change the way they post (not necessarily for the better like it should work with downreps) and we'd end up with a kind of shit system. With the reasons for having an uprep that Nien described, they can be done now without the mod if people just spoke up in threads instead of circle jerking in private about it.

* positive reps
im not a regular by any means but positive reinforcement is always a good thing. i agree with nien here in saying that a lot of the times, the negative feedback will result in butthurt kids and whatnot.

I'd definelty agree on the idea of adding postive rep if it wasn't for what Pixelpest said.
