Level tutoring?

Postby Karl Marx » Mon Nov 10, 2014 8:36 am

Here's an idea: we could institute a system where some of the more successful level designers work one-on-one with users that are not satisfied with their designing capabilities/ want to make better levels.

There'd be an application process for both tutors and protégées, and then the tutors would make specific exercises designed to improve designing skills, like with events or background usage.

If such a program existed, would you guys use it? What do you think?

not everyone has the time or patience, mostly because the newbies are 10 year olds who barely understand things.

I actually love this idea. If I had had it way back when, I would have had a much faster curve to learning the editor to its fullest.

We should make a system so that some people don't reject you for making "bad" levels.

That sounds pretty cool, only thing is of the experienced designers would have to agree and also have enough time.
But the core concept sounds really good!

It would only be between someone who wants to help and somebody who wants help, people that already assume their levels are perfect would not use this service.

Now I have no idea how somebody would teach someone how to make good levels, but if someone could figure that out, there'd be more good levels posted in the levels forum, right?

This is quite a good plan actually.
But alot of new users seem to not be able to speak proper english.

First off, welcome to the forums.
Secondly, this isn't the right topic for questions like that. Go to "help and support" instead. Good luck!

If he does, then no-one will understand him except for people that can speak German, so that's a bad idea in my opinion.

Besides, tutorials on how to SMBX were never what I envisioned, I was talking about a one-on-one, veteran to newbie relationship where the veteran would help the newbie understand how to utilize the engine.

Assuming he can't speak English.

While I admit his English isn't the best, I've heard him, and it's aight imo.

And if he did it I would want to be co-commentator, just in case :P

Hey! I was 10 years old when I started using SMBX, and I made decent levels. I understood A LOT of things at 10, okay. That is all you need to know. I'm sorry if what I said is rude, but what you said is rude, stereotyping young children.

Hey. He wasn't "Steriotyping young children". He said that alot of the noobs are 10 year olds that don't understand much. He never said all 10 year olds barely unserstood things. He was talking about a certain group of 10 year olds (I think he was hinting at MNIE52). I understand your point though.
