New Super Mario Bros X DS 1-2
It's easy to tell that you're kinda new to SMBX, because there are many things you still have to learn. For example: be consistent with your theme. This started out as an underground level, then there was lava, then some stairs, then a poker table and then a throne? Half of these things don't even make sense. Try to be strictly consistent with your level theme. If you're making an underground level, make an underground level, and don't drift away from the original idea! Then next up, make the level actually challenging. The least I could say about this level is that there were enemies. But that's it. The level was just straight out flat, then some flat lava part, then finally some elevation, then flat again and then the level was over. You could literally turn god-mode on and run through this level, you wouldn't even have to jump. Make it more challenging for the player, put more pipes there, put blocks in the way, anything. Speaking of pipes, there were some pipes, but they clashed really hard with the environment. I'm talking about the red and the silver pipe in the middle of the underground wasteland. First of all, the pipes were cut off, but that's the lesser evil here. What I mean is that you should never use the silver airship pipe together with the pipes that have big top tiles. There is literally one use for this silver pipe and that is as an entrance for an airship boss. Another thing is the random lava part. First of all, it was not challenging at all, second, it was very out of place for a first-world underground level. Consistency is the keyword here. If you have to use lava, then somehow build it into the level theme, instead of only using it one time. The same thing could basically be said about everything else in the level. There were 5000 different NPCs in your level, randomly thrown in. Also there was each of every powerup in the level. This all made the level just seem randomly thrown together. Then there are the random NPCs, like the (what I assume was poker) playing Toads that just sit in the middle of the level. Also the lamps hanging from the ceiling. Basically a good idea, but then you started using another kind of lamp and it just seemed like you had no idea what you were actually doing. Then there was a point where a Dragon Coin was placed over a pit, with coins in the pit. Not only is it mean to lure the player into the pit, but also is it basically pointless since noone would be fooled to jump in there, so why put them there in the first place? There are many things in this level that need to be taken care of.
On the upside, I have to say at least your level was somewhat enjoyable to play, at it definitely would've been easy for a beginner to get into the game. :P
Over all, this is a... level. I don't want to say bad, but you've definitely still got a long way ahead of you... Doesn't mean though you won't make it, I suggest you try playing other people's levels and see how they do their work, and I also suggest you look in the Level Design Tips thread (
http://www.smbxgame.com/forums/v ... f=32&t=739) where you should find some instructions on how to make a good level, or play this
http://www.smbxgame.com/forums/v ... =81&t=5871, a fancy little tutorial where you should get a basic idea of what levels should look like.
Score: 1/10, moved to Trashcan.
If you don't like the placement, we can move your level to the Casual forum if you want, but I still suggest you look at the stuff I mentioned and try to come up with a way to improve your level. Heads up, kiddo, you're gonna make it ^^
