Just by looking at the thumbnail, I can see that the SMW fence doesn't fit with the SMB3 Background.

Yeah I'm quickly learning that people here are perfectionists. Everything Ive made was before I came here. So catching stuff like that is only gona right my ship toward a better level design.

Watching the video, you really need to add some scenery to this level. And what's the purpose of the desert area? It was, if anything, annoying, and unnecessary. Also, don't mix game styles so much, please, and choose better backgrounds and tilesets for your levels, like, seriously, here's where I'd say custom graphics are essential for this.

THe purpose of the desert area (which im going to change at the end) is that every castle level starts outside with their respective world theme. world 8 is desert/lava themed. I wanted to put background stuff in the Rinka/link fence area, but the fences are backgrounds in themselves. What would one suggest to put around those? AGain, this was all before i learned to use custom graphics.

C'mon guys, this was one of his/her first levels before he/she came here, were any of your first levels perfect?
Anyway, I do like the level because at the start, it shows of the current world the player is in and that is rarely ever seen, there are a few hiccups, but not big ones and there already mentioned so , I shouldn't need to repeat what others have said.

I'm a big boy, I can take the constructive criticism. I'm currently playing "The Mushroom Robbers" and the standards are high. Just all around great, clever work. I understand all of that. I just thank anyone who takes the time to check it out.

After watching the video I have this to say. This is my review of the level.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS : 2/5
There isn't one room with a certain style to it. One desert room, One castle room, One cave room, one outside room and a boss room.
None of the graphics fit with each other such as Metroid and Super Mario World. It doesn't look good. But hey, just because it looks bad, it doesn't mean that the gameplay is bad. Right?
THE LEVEL ITSELF : 2/5
Ugh... Where do I begin... The desert area. It felt like you wanted to make a desert castle, but gave up on actually trying to make a desert. The first section is just a straight shot of desert. As a false sense of difficulty and progression, you added two lakitus to make the scenario look treacherous, but overall you made the lakitus look dumb. The second section was a let-down. If the area was more knit tight and less spacious, I think the section would feel harder without being truly harder. Another thing about the second section has to do with the pillar statues. It looked quite easy for a world 8 castle. Another thing with the pillars is that they don't fit with the lava and there is cutoff with the lava. Also, more mismatched graphics. Third section, OOH BOY! First off, the thing with the metroid heads, didn't look good. Second off, the Lakitus throwing the rippers (?) , crawly things, looked dumb and were easily avoidable. Again, EVEN MORE MISMATCHED GRAPHICS. Final section : the intro. It looked decent, but I don't understand why you gave the player a hammer suit. That power-up can easily overpower the boss...
THE BOSS: 4/5
^-^ I liked the fight. The spikes might have not looked too good, but the fact that you made a cool Mother Brain Boss is pretty dang neat. It looks crisp and cool.
PERSONAL BIASES

TOTAL SCORE : 45/100
Its okay for a first level, but it could definitely improve.

During the creation the whole aesthetic feel wasnt in my repitoire yet. Admittedly, at that point in the game I just wanted to be done. Im thinking instead of doing a whole new one I re-do this one and just improve on it from start to finish. All while taking what Ive learned in terms of custom gfx, understanding of the program etc, etc and just re building. My thought with the hammer suit was with all the rinkas (there were originally 4) and the bomb every... gosh, 3 seconds? One may find a 10 hit boss difficult to overcome with just the bomb from the pipe. PLus with the frequency of the rinka fire and potentially the bomb hitting closely one would be hit early on, but have the majority of damage already done so the bomb use wouldnt be so bad. Just my thought process and trials while I made this.... Thank you again!
