Streaming on OBS/ Hitbox.tv

Postby Sylaess » Mon Oct 27, 2014 3:46 pm

Hello I'm new to the forums and after searching for a while I did not find the answer to my issue. I have seen people streaming SMBX but I can't figure out how.

My stream preview will show the game working properly but the viewers don't get an image.
Spoiler: show

Any other game works properly. I also noticed that SMBX doesn't appear in the "game capture" list within OBS. So using monitor capture or window capture were the only methods I could use.

Here is what i tried:
Fullscreen game and windowed mode game.
32bit and 64 bit obs.
Admin mode
Reinstalling the game.
Formatting PC and reinstalling drivers, .net, direct x.

If anyone managed to stream this game on OBS I would really like to know how you managed to do it as I am eager to speedrun it live.

I am using windows 7 Ultimate 64bit with the latest version of Obs and SMBX

I can stream it just fine. Are you sure you set up your stream key properly? What about your bitrates and such? Also make sure the window is in focus (make sure its running) to get picture if you just started the game up.

My stream key is setup properly, as stated above any other game works fine.

The window is indeed in focus or the screenshot provided would not have been possible to be created (Plus they would see a stale image, not a black screen).

The bitrate is set at 700kb/s. Unless the game is very picky about the bitrate I do not think that is the issue either. It would be the first game that I play that require a bit rate that high.

Note that the audio works fine and if I record the game onto my hard drive everything works fine aswell. The hitbox clients see a black screen with working audio. In instance that it is monitor capture, they will see the entire monitor and everything that works around it but the game itself will be a black box.

Since Hitbox is in Beta still, did your viewers try to refresh the page? Sometimes when joining they only see a black screen. Other than that, I'm not sure what could be the issue, cause as I have said, I can stream it just fine.

EDIT: Also, why not post a link to your stream so we can test this out.

I tried streaming on twitch.tv. I can see my own stream using the computer I am streaming with. The video appears properly. But anyone else watching claims that the screen is black and sound is working. Which technically is the same issue as Hitbox.tv

Edit: Also my stream is http://hitbox.tv/sylaess

There doesn't seem to be any problem for XerX, It is probably a client sided problem for the viewers. I will post more on this thread if I figure what was the exact cause.

The issue according to XerX would be a hitbox.tv bug where people had to refresh. I will update if this was the cause.

Edit: My english is bad.
