Bottom Tier
Hard Boss: 1/10 - Made by krazykat
Spoiler: show
After you get killed because you had no idea that Thwomp generators were right in your face, you will realize that this is the easiest level in the entire contest. Just wait for 40 seconds under the left fence as the Thwomps kill themselves, and you get a star. I was about to take a screenshot showing how I broke this level instead of just describing it, but I won right as I went to take the screenshot. This level does not deserve to be called "hard," nor does it deserve to be called a "boss."
Tutorial for Noobs: 2/10 - Made by litchh

Nice tutorial, jerk. Yes, everything is password protected. No, you don't tell us what the password is. I had to get KoolKat to tell me what the password is just so I could play the level.

As for the actual level, it's basically a rip-off of the first three levels in the original Super Mario Bros. with minor, unremarkable differences. It wasn't a funny tutorial like Tutorial of Spikes from Prelude to the Stupid, and it wasn't an extensive and user friendly tutorial like the one in Super RMN Bros. 3. This level has no reason to exist.

I always protect my contest levels with a password to prevent random outflow. What's wrong with it? Is it so hard to send a pass together with a level for contest judges and enter it?

I will say: I didn't take off any points for the fact that your level was password protected (after all, it's the actual level that matters); rather, it was more annoying than anything, especially since krazykat didn't tell me the password at first, making me think that whoever made the level didn't tell krazykat the password, either. Of course, since you DID tell him the password, that would make it his fault, which is another reason I didn't take off any points for it.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that it was pass protected.

Middle Tier
3-2 Tree Trunk Adventure: 4.5/10 - Made by Little Boo
Spoiler: show
You forgot the music. Even if you didn't forget the music, the level just seems uninspired. The only things that stood out were the abnormally tall cactus NPCs and the slow, boring cloud-riding part.

Well, at least you labeled your theoretical song coices so that I can listen to what would have been playing during the level. Wow, that's some nice music. I wonder what it would be like if someone used them in an SMBX level...I guess we'll never know...
Graveyard Shift: 5.5/10 - Made by dragonfan96
Spoiler: show
This is actually a pretty good level, except for the unmarked Erie and Boo generators and killer warp (I'll get to that later). Also, it's nice that you have a message box tell us that we can enter graves, but you don't need these ? blocks to generate the same message (also, you have the event play the message sound effect, even though the message plays the sound effect by itself). Yes, both blocks generate the message, and it's annoying both times.
Image
Also, Warp # 10 kills the player, making the third secret star inaccessible. Just move the warp down by one unit and add a pipe graphic to fix this issue (Don't forget to make the Star03 event actually show the third star, and maybe make some of the invisible blocks on the right side of the section visible). This screenshot shows the warp killing me off-screen.
Image
One more thing: I know your level isn't very difficult, but, secrets aside, the midpoint is too close to the end of the level; it should be closer to the middle, especially since it's not like the level gets any more difficult afterward.
Unterirdischen Höhle: 6/10 - Made by MECHDRAGON777
Spoiler: show
You mislabeled your custom song. Negative one out of ten.

Okay, serious complaints: It is very unintuitive how you're supposed to get this Dragon Coin. If I'm on top of the ceiling and I keep moving left, I get warped under the ceiling, not in it, and there's no indication that the background objects that border the normal blocks are not themselves normal blocks.
Image
You shouldn't use the background objects that have the grassy border on them because they look like normal blocks; rather, you should use the background images that don't have the grassy border so that there's some indication that that is where you have to go to get the Dragon Coin.

If it weren't for that, this would probably have been the best level in the contest because it does something that isn't normally done in SMBX (dark cave + Lakitu light) rather than being a generic, forgettable level.

So I can in third place with a level I made a year ago? Wow! And for the dragon coin, did I not give the moon coin graphic? Any way, my intention is hit the small right of the wall and run to the far left! Getting the dragon coins actualy gives a star if I recall correctly, so, thanks!

Something I forgot to mention about Unterirdischen Höhle:

Not long after the start of the level, there's a Thwomp that's pretty high up. This wouldn't normally be an issue, but with the way the Lakitu light works, the player will barely be able to see it, if at all, until it's too late and he/she gets hit. I was going to complain about this in my review, but the issue with the dragon coin made me so upset, I ended up forgetting about the Thwomp.

@ MECHDRAGON777: You accidentally left your response inside of your quote from krazykat, so I almost missed it.
MECHDRAGON777 wrote:So I can in third place with a level I made a year ago? Wow!
Well, third place out of six levels and Hard Boss. Just putting things in perspective.
MECHDRAGON777 wrote:And for the dragon coin, did I not give the moon coin graphic?
I'm not completely sure what you're asking, but I'm going to guess:

No, you did not sprite swap the dragon coins.
MECHDRAGON777 wrote:Any way, my intention is hit the small right of the wall and run to the far left! Getting the dragon coins actualy gives a star if I recall correctly, so, thanks!
Yes, I actually figured that out (after browsing the level and its events), and I believe I mentioned that in my review (except for the star part). You see, if it weren't for how unintuitive it is to get that dragon coin, you probably would have placed higher.

For all the levels i do i try to keep the difficulty relatively easy maybe some intermediate stuff but easy and fun...
I had trouble with the ? block problem i'd try fixing it and i did but i didn't expect it to be copied to other blocks placed
Same thing i said about the same problem in BDP....i never knew the message sound wasn't needed in events(i though they didn't make that sound)

Overall, I didn't expect to get a good score at all(maybe its just because i always feel i do worse than i actually do)

Fair enough, but there's a difference between that and having the midpoint 2/3rds through the level as opposed to half-way. That just makes the level unbalanced.

See? That's why you should test your levels! You'd have known these things if you had only tested your level.

...Even in a level i make so many mistakes....such a noob...

noobsterfan96?

I do test often and i try to make sure its playable then move on

At least its nice to have feedback with what i made as making it, then judging it is pretty hard for me

Top Tier
Iced Artic (KoolKat's contest level): 6.3/10 - Made by Superiorstar
Spoiler: show
Hey, Sonic Mega Collection music! The level itself was...okay. I thought it was odd that Podobos came out of frozen-solid water, and that there were columns of snow, even outside, but those are minor complaints. The Super Metroid glass sprite swaps seemed underutilized as well (and they have 4x4 pixels). Also, there's no midpoint, and it seems like there should be one in Section 3, because there is no purpose for that section as it stands now. One more thing:
Image

(P.S. Technically, you didn't label your custom songs, but since they have album credits, I'll let it slide this time)
Castle Von Koopa: 6.6/10 - Made by fireflowerhour
Spoiler: show
You didn't properly label your custom songs. Negative one out of ten. (admittedly, Rogueport Sewers was labeled, and that was the only one I didn't recognize, but music is just as important to levels as graphics, so make sure they're labeled next time.)

This level was alright, I guess. It had a small variety in regards to obstacles, but nothing really stood out or seemed fleshed out. Even the boss fight against a Ludwig sprite swap, despite the existence of other NPCs in the room, wasn't very complex because the player can simply wait on the left side of the room (where the entrance is) due to the slightly elevated blocks and easily stomp Ludwig to death when he comes out of his shell.

On the other hand, there weren't any noticeable design flaws.

I think you should play the levels other then yours and grade them. That way, we have more then one vote!
