They're not that bad, but they're not that good either.

Grassland Level That I Forgot the Name Of (First Level)

Postby Zeldamaster12 » Fri Oct 17, 2014 7:27 pm

Welp, here you have it: My first level.

So, I thought I lost this level forever, as it was on my old computer. I made this a year ago (September of 2013), and it was posted on Knux's forum. Unfortunately, when Knux's was closed, I didn't think I would ever see this level again. However, when saving my second level on MediaFire, I figured out that I had saved my first level on MediaFire, as well. This shocked me. So, I might as well post it here.

Anyways, it's a random SMB3 themed grassland level. I don't remember everything it contains, to be honest, but I do remember that it has some neat obstacles, although nowadays, I'm not really a fan of the scenery I used back then. Still, though, I'd like to know what you guys think about it.

@bossedit8's Review - Grassland Level (That I Forgot the Name Of) - Made by @Zeldamaster12

Design Usage
Very nice Grassy Themed Level. The Design was decently nice especially a lot of variety of background objects but I wouldn't really recommended to put background objects connected to the bottom of the screen because it can be the case that a few of our players could be misleaded as real Blocks at the very bottom that is offscreen but in reality is not. Speaking of background objects, you used not only SMB3 but also other ones such as SMB2 palm trees. This Level not only has Obstacles to take care of but there are some minimizeable Puzzles like what you normally see in a very unfairly Game (Kaizo) or in a Puzzle Game which was surely different for this type of Level but the problem is if you lose at least one Item (well, only a Shell) and then it won't respawn again you are forced to restart that Level but since it isn't long to even get back to this place where you failed at it isn't all that bad anyway. There is one place where you need an Item so you can go back to the Pipe where you saw that was blocked off but there is another way which saves time and that is by going over the screen (see the Video). There are Areas where you have to be small to get to specific points to the Level which defeats the purpose of being big at the first place. Later on after the Pipe issue there are now regular Obstacles where you have to spinjump over which by the way it isn't a good option since there are certain playable characters where they can't do that (Peach and Link). After that the Level is pretty much done. It surely was a very short Level but not all that bad for the first Level. It surely was playable. Oh and by the way what I found it original is how you put a spike tile on a Bullet Bill Blaster where the Bullet Bill Maching normally shoots but these spikes are there instead which is pretty original. I can't say that it looks nice and all but definetly original. It kind of was in the place that it hard to avoid at least but it was a one timer anyway. There are no secrets to discover besides that one spot where you can use it as shortcut. Would of recommend to use more Item Blocks in a Level rather only at the beginning.
Point Rating: 3

NPC Placement:
Your placements of the NPCs was average to say at least. There weren't many of them but at least there is something to deal with in this Level. Enemies were ok but not all of them fits for a Grass Themed Level like that Thwomp blocking your way and that Roto-Disk. The rest were fitting but some of them are on a different Game Style (SMB, SMB2 and SMW, not only SMB3). At the beginning there are 3 Spiny Eggs following you and also at the end of the Level where it is black. Kind of an overkill of Enemy placements here. There are some Toads to talk which was nice. Coin Placements were extremely low, like there are almost nothing of Coins worth in this single Level. Power up placements were kind of decent for a short Level for sure but like I said, there is a place where a Mushroom or a few other different Power Ups has no use by that 1 block space to move further on or to get through the blocked Thwomp properly. Others Items like Springboards and such were ok but like I said before, if you mess the Shell up you have to do a bit of the Level again.

Pretty decent Level even for the first time doing but also downfalls encountered.

I didn't even see this was rated.

Thanks for the rate! I know, it's not that great, I could honestly do better now.
