Boss - Rudy the Clown

Postby Flying Brick » Sun Oct 12, 2014 10:00 am

This idea randomly popped up in my head, and I just went with it. It's everyone's favorite monster clown from Wario Land 3, now in SMBX! I tried to stay close to the source material, but there's always some creative liberties you have to take. Have fun!

Note:This boss was made and tested with Mario as the playable character. Luigi and Toad will probably work fine, but I'm not sure about Peach, and Link will absolutely BREAK this boss. Just stick with Mario and you'll be fine ;)
UPDATE: I fixed two minor issues with the boss:
Spoiler: show
-After hitting Rudy once, he no longer instantly transitions back to his vulnerable state after attacking
- The hand used to hit Rudy last now spawns slightly lower so you don't clip into the wall and die anymore.

The boss was preety amazing. I loved the concept and I havn't quite seen it before. I also loved the Wario land reference at the end when Mario has to pick up the hand and throw it at Rudy. It brings back old memories.

Very good, this level deserves to be moved to the best.

That really depends on how this community goes about judging bosses. Last I checked, there not much of a guideline there. But thanks :D I tried to make as many references to the original fight as I could.

Wario from the game was not in the remake of the boss, thats the only bad thing (Joking..) ;)

This boss looks freakin amazing though, keep up the good work, got any other bosses from wario/mario to remake?

Just wondering: why did this post get a board warning? He wasn't trying to review it, he was just trying to say he liked it and he thought it was well-designed. It's pretty obvious that the whole "Serious/Casual" split didn't work at all, and also getting warned for "not making a serious digest of the level" is really harsh. What happened to verbal warnings?

Who gave him the warning? Who ever gave him it should be dealt with.

This is exactly what I'm saying: If you can't do your job rightfully then don't do it at all.
Maybe Instead of making everyone around you look like an asshole you should do your damn job right yourself.
I'm really pissed that a Global moderator did this.

This is what I was talking about, I told you he'd unravel.

when posting in reply to a level it doesn't have to be a freaking level review. Saying this level was really good is fine...

There was no way to include a decent Wario without either breaking his hitbox or using LunaDLL, and I wanted to keep this boss accessible to everyone.
To be honest, this boss was just an idea of the moment that I went with, so I have no other bosses planned at the moment. Right now, I'll be focusing on my own project, which of course will have no shortage of bosses :D

@KoolKat, @Radishl and @Superiorstar, you seriously need to read the Rules more closely:

Now, please get back on the Level my friends!

@bossedit8's Boss Level Review - Rudy the Clown - Created by @Flying Brick

Design Usage and NPC Placements:
This Boss, "Rudy the Clown" was surely amazing. I honestly never saw quite a boss like that in SMBX. I know a little bit of some kind of Wario Game that has this Boss in it but I never ever played it by myself or even look further into that but I am honestly surprised that this Boss not only looks amazing but it worked great and is unique. By trying to beat him, you have to lure one of his Hands down and jump on Lemmy's Balls to get up. Wait until the Hand is at the top again and then jump on his ugly face which is a very nice concept for this kind of Boss. After at least one hit of his head, his Hands are trying to attack the player but how they appear is a bit sudden for the player to react especially if the Player is more at the side of it. Maybe something like that there is a warning sign that a Hand is gonna appear at the sides instead of making them instantly appear and surprises the player. After that you have to jump on his head again with the same movements but after you did this you have to dodge these 2 Hands again but they are now bouncing, means you have to go under them which was really nice but yet again, once you are at the side of it you have low reaction to them. After that it repeats the Attack from the previous "Forms". After you hit his head for the third time, you gain a Springboard which means you have to dodge the Hand by jumping over it but be careful for not hitting his head from the bottom or else you damage which is also nice. Then, at the last form you have to jump on his head yet again but by spinjumping him and you have to get to the other side to the Hand with your spinjump. With that, his one hand gets hurt and you can even grab it. After I throw his broken Hand to his head, I defeated him completly and there is your End. Your NPC Placements were nice enough to have by a Boss Fight and it is quite challenging especially for a new player.

Overall Rating Score: 9.5

The Best

For a Boss, this was amazingly designed. You really deserved that kind of rating even know I have a little complaint by sudden appearance by his Hands.

Thanks for the high score :D and you raise a good point, I could've done a whole lot better on his telegraphs.
Funny thing, btw, I was just about to request a playthrough of this boss to you :P

Oh yeah, forgot to mention that make sure that if you are at the end of it like where you throw one of his hand at his face, make sure that the "Spawned NPC" is also in the hiding position since the Ball was still there after I destroyed him entirely.

holy crap that clown is scary Not bad. I might download it, and it does definitely seem good. 9/10.
The only problem was the outline on the hands/body in the screenshot. Other than that, looks good.
