But Wohl's engine won't be compatible with SMBX, because it will have new things, which SMBX won't support :/

There will be two configs for the new engine:
* A config which is compatible with SMBX 1.3
* A config which adds more things beyond SMBX 1.3 (SMBXended)

But I don't wanna go too off-topic :P

PGE is compatible with SMBX:
- You always can open/save SMBX level files in same format which works in the SMBX (and also play them via engine)
- New content stuff standard is fully bases on SMBX reverse engining research and will always easy to transport your SMBX episodes from SMBX into PGE and back, but if you was used new PGE's things which is not supports by SMBX, you will lose them in SMBX-compatible target episode format.
PGE use a configuration packages based content system which gives able to support multiple content standards and gives able to define your own!

SMBX64 - is an SMBX game engine standard. PGE will give compatibility with SMBX only if current configuration pack is following to SMBX64 standard. Later I will add marker "SMBX64 standart valitated" which will say "This configuration pack is fully compatible with SMBX".

This.
Compatibility will not need if you will not make levels for SMBX (make levels for inside PGE using only).
Like Photoshop which work with own PSD format which support multilayaring and saving effects settings, but you always can save into PNG, JPG, BMP, GIF formats, and you losing those layers and effects will be converted into static pixels.
