“Hi guys, it’s Knux. I’m permanently banned from here so I can’t post to you directly. Anyways, TGE3 was tested once in its entirity however I expierenced no problems with it. I know that the layers in course 4 stopped moving, but I couldn’t resolve this. Sorry about that.”
Pseudo-dino wrote:To give you a little background, Virus610, this episode would probably be featured even if it was shittier than Challenge Castle (sorry, inside joke) just because it's an episode in this series. The Great Empire series was created by Knux, a former long-standing member of this community who was community leader for several years, and is now pretty much gone. It's really well known and this entry in particular has been long-awaited. Even if it's not a well-formatted episode, it's an important one.
So yeah, like sorry this is shitty but it's not going to get updated at least by the original creator. That's too bad though, Knux really screwed up the world map it seems.
I understand it's terribly rude of me to just waltz into this community and start telling people how I think they should do things, but what kind of impression do you think this gives to people new to SMBX?
I'm completely uninterested in what is 'featured', because apparently the barrier to entry into this league is "Completely broken and unplayable... But the author made something good before."
Been trying to encourage some people who watch my stream to get their hands on SMBX and learn to make levels/worlds, but it's hard to show what SMBX is capable of when a featured episode simply doesn't work, y'know? Makes a really bad first impression.
Just my two cents.

No, no, no, I wasn't accusing you of being rude at all, and I don't think you were! Sorry if it came off too aggressively, I just wanted to explain why this episode is so "important".
Either way it seems to work fine for other people, or at least nobody else seems to have reported having problems. It's possible your download was screwed up or something, since the episode seems to work for Knux himself according to the message posted by GLuigiX. Have you tried redownloading, and/or is this a chronic problem with episodes you've downloaded? Having spaces in level filenames is pretty rare, though.
Oh no, I didn't think you were calling me rude, I just think my demeanour probably comes off as kind of jerk-ish to just storm in being all "Rah rah rah do things my way".
One of the people watching my stream while I was playing it downloaded the episode to see if he could figure out what was causing the error, and found the exact same problems. He was able to instruct me on how to make a couple stages work, but I ended up deciding it just wasn't worth the trouble when I found more and more courses were giving file not found errors (I think courses 10 and 11 later turned out to be broken).
There's also joelcanciones, who asked about the same thing in this very thread. Aside from that, the only person I see in this thread who seems to have played it at all and commented is bossedit, whose video doesn't show enough progress to actually encounter any of the errors that I've brought up.
With the mediafire permission error that people were encountering earlier likely discouraging some downloading of the episode early on, and the otherwise very recent posting of the episode, it's my assumption that there simply aren't enough people who have actually reached the broken parts of the episode yet to complain about it.
Also, I just redownloaded it, walked to course 5, and saw a lack of star counter (Which is consistent with stages that aren't showing a star count, since they're not found).
I'd really love to play the episode, the concept is really cool (Aside from the more linear levels being "Play 20% of the level, then play 40%, then 60%, then 80%, then 100% to get all stars"), my viewers were enjoying it, and it definitely seems like a lot of work went into it, but it is in an unplayable state at the moment, which is a bit of a buzzkill.
Lastly, this is the only episode I've encountered this problem with. While I haven't played a whole ton of them, the ones I've played have certainly worked right out of the box.

OK then, it seems that the error is indeed inherent to the episode. Hopefully Knux (he seems to be re-opening contact with the community to some extent, or perhaps someone else) will fix the download at some point, then.

Maybe my secondary part will show what you have mentioned:
Just about. The very door that you ended the video outside of is the first problem door. Though the missing music in stage 4 is certainly confirmed by your video.
Notice how there was no 0/3 on the ghost house door when you ran by it, I am fairly certain you that you'll get a file not found error when you try entering that door. (This one is resolved by renaming "Forest 1.lvl" to "Forest1.lvl" and the folder "Forest 1" to "Forest1". This is just one of many stages that has this problem, though.

Oh I am quite aware that it's multiple levels. It's part of why I'm so bothered about how very broken the episode is. There are a LOT of broken courses, and it really discourages me from bothering with other featured episodes. I'd expect the featured things to be the best of the best, and something that simply isn't functional doesn't strike me as that.

All the other featured episodes have been good. This one is made by Knux, so it's featured (for a somewhat negative reason imo). Broken logic, 10 points to Slytherin.
I'm simply speaking from a first-impression perspective. New people find out about SMBX every day, and the first thing they see at the top of a page is "Check out The Great Empire 3", which is broken.
I'm a reasonable person, and understand that first impressions are not everything, but a lot of people don't behave the same way. I'm sure the other featured episodes are just peachy, but there's a looming stain on the quality of the featured episodes which is inevitably going to discourage people new to the community from bothering when something that's featured is ultimately unplayable.
I'm just saying that the episode really ought to be removed until it actually works. There's really no point in featuring something that is broken; It serves no purpose but to drive newcomers away.

I agree with this part: I believe that the featured episode should be an official project such as NGCA, or at the very least, a new project which works.
