STREAM PAGE: http://www.livestream.com/idontknowitsastream
Next stream will be at: Halloween streams every day at 12 PM PST until the next movie, at NOVEMBER 1ST AT 12 PM PST.
Last update: The Timmies.
Current Status: Let's just say this season has ended. Yes, let's call them seasons.
[/center]

THE PRIMER:

Spoiler: show
Every Saturday the Americanas waking up in the morning and Eurasians partying the night away present in this community get together to watch a movie. I stream it, we all sit down and make fun of it. We're a bunch of rowdy kids and we tend to laugh at everything we watch, even if it's good. We're only growing larger, so next Saturday's a better time than any Saturday to watch movies you may or may not have seen before.

THE PROCESS:

Spoiler: show
-Step 1) Voting begins every Sunday at 8 PM PST. 4 movies will be available to choose for the next screening.
-Step 2) Voting closes Thursday at 8 PM PST. Highest votes wins. If there is a tie, I will break it. Otherwise, I do not vote for movies.
-Step 2B) The movies that weren't voted for will show up in next week's poll, up to a maximum of 4 times. If they do not win 4 times in a row, they are removed and added in at a later date.
-Step 2C) The winning movie is removed from the poll and generally stays out unless special conditions are met.
-Step 3) The movie will be next Saturday at 12:00 PM. This is PACIFIC STANDARD TIME, or PST. Please use a timezone converter to figure out what time this is for you.
-Step 3B) The stream will start 30 minutes before the movie does, and will usually be me putting some music and pictures in the background. I may be playing something at this time or I may not.
-Step 4) At the end of the stream, those ATTENDING will be able to vote for a movie to add to the pool. If they can't, I'll find one. I decide which movie sounds like the biggest treat, not necessarily the best movie, so CHOOSE WISELY. But regardless of whether I pick it or not, I will log any movies you have in mind in my repetoire for future nights. THIS IS THE ONLY TIME YOU MAY EVER SUGGEST A MOVIE TO GO INTO THE POLL. I WILL TURN DOWN ALL OTHER RECOMMENDATIONS.
-Step ??) For those who stick around to the end of the credits during the daytime stream, I usually do a bonus treat. This can be anything whatsoever.

Just an extra reminder: the times the movie begins is IN PACIFIC STANDARD TIME. You might not live anywhere near the West Coast of the United States, so the times listed will be wrong. You will need to figure out which time zone you live in and then use a nifty time zone converter to find out what time the movie's at IN YOUR PART OF THE WORLD.

AND THE POTPOURRI:

Spoiler: show
The Goonies: A rowdy bunch of pre-teens go on a pirate treasure hunt to save their urban home from getting torn the fuck down. What this movie will teach you: go treasure hunting to get out of debt.
Soylent Green: Well, we've made the world terrible to live in and by the future, we have a perfect dystopia left to our future children. It's okay though, because Soylent Green keeps them in check. Why have acceptable living conditions and anything to live for when you can have Soylent Green?
Star Wars: This movie is about being a space knight in space. Also something about a galactic federation and rebel scum. But what's important is being a space knight.
Toy Story: Let's look at Pixar before it ever started spewing out movie after movie, by which I mean at its ugliest. Don't get me wrong, Toy Story is a legendary movie about a cowboy and his adventure with a new space case, but this was among the first CGI movies ever. Shit's gonna look something bizarre if you go from Frozen to this.
i had 5 minutes to edit this so no posters yet

It may or may not have been better that you missed it. It was...unreal, to say the least.

If we seriously go with The Pagemaster I will outright kill myself because that movie killed my childhood.

I'm torn between Jurassic Park and Friday The 13th. But yeah, as long as I'm notified of what time this is at, I'll be up for attending. I'll even attend TeamSpeak or something like that so.

So what would be the advantages/disadvantages of being in the teamspeak or skype? As I'd love to be in the Skype but I don't have a webcam anymore, I do however have a mic.

As apposed to like, a couple second delay between video and chat messages, you're right there talking to people as it happens. Your commentary will show up along with the stream as apposed to a chat off to the side.

That and you'll be in a teamspeak group. You guys could like, organize playing games together or some shit.

Update: I am on the fence about whether or not to do Teamspeak stuff. I mean back during the pre-stages of this I was using it and skype and was like "holy crap we could do live commentary without stream delay because skype is really good at delay and teamspeak is really good at voip" but I need convincing that it's worth having for movie night. I mean I'll use it for game streams whenever I do them but I'm skeptical as to whether or not I will actively use my own server for this specifically.

I'd make a new poll but as you can see my poll here is occupied, so just post here explaining why. It's better that way anyway.

TeamSpeak > Skype because having an always open-mic can and will be troublesome, so it's much more preferable to have PTT mandatory since it will cut down on unintentional mic spam, breathing into the mic, idle open mics, etc., basically things that could ruin the movie experience.

Quick clarification: we are using both TeamSpeak AND Skype. You need both. I am not holding a Skype call because its VOIP is crap and TeamSpeak does not stream video.

So a friend of mine has allowed me to borrow his server for the next Movie Night, on one condition: I need to throttle the people that comes in and not just allow everybody with a mic to pop in.

Therefore, IF YOU WANT TO JOIN THE TEAMSPEAK CHAT SATURDAY YOU WILL NEED TO PM ME AN ANSWER TO THE FOLLOWING QUESTION:
What are you going to be on the TeamSpeak group for?

Answer correctly and I'll let you in. If you give me a shoddy answer or you do not grasp what you'll be doing in the voice group, then you'll be turned down.

Also DID I MENTION YOU NEED BOTH TEAMSPEAK AND SKYPE? NO EXCEPTIONS.

There's not really a deadline to this but I will probably ignore any PMs I get during the movie stream.

Re: DM's Movie Night: LIVE

Postby DarkMatt » Sat Sep 13, 2014 2:34 pm

It's time to party. Link's in the OP.

I'll probably use livestream chat again since it's there in the stream n all that.

The party is over. Thanks to everybody who attended.

New things:
-TeamSpeak+Skype was a novel idea but it proved too inconvenient, so it's scrapped. Now, I need you guys to figure out an alternative to use over the Livestream chat because while it's nice and there in the stream page, it has a profanity filter there's no way of removing. That's buttsauce, so we should think of something else. I was going to use IRC but we'd have to figure out a nice normal way ot have the chat and watch the stream at the same time.

you should rephrase that it will only be determined by the staff

I think making new threads for each event would be a good idea. Or you could have people vote for the next movie in this thread and then create a new thread for the new movie. Not sure, but new threads would be better to thin out discussion and make it less clumped into one whole thread.

I would also think to space these events out a bit more instead of having them happen right after the last.

Right after the last? He usually sets up the next poll a day or so after the previous movie night. Every movie night so far has been on Saturday.

Voted Friday the 13th. We need at least one slasher film instead of all of these friendly fucks we call movies.

We are LIVE (with previews.)

If you miss the 12 PM stream, there's always the 6 PM stream.

It's over and we had a lot of fun. Here are some new questions to ask.

-Should I stream at 6 PM? I'm asking because at this point most people are asleep/watched it already, so no one's around for another go. If no, then you should give me a new time to stream this.
-Could we possibly make a steam group for this? If everyone attending has steam we could just use the group chat instead. I don't mind using the livestream chat but we could do away with that profanity filter.
