Speedyshare expires, the sites I use are Mediafire and Sendspace. Never had a problem.

And it's not our responsibility to look after them. When they go on the internet and start downloading things being unknowledgeable and inexperienced, they accept the risk of consequences.
Radishl wrote: Please just update the download links on the smbx download and tell everyone to use speedy share...
We're not going to tell the userbase what upload sites to use, because a lot of our users have personal preferences and needs from those sites that some fulfill and others don't. It's not unreasonable to expect our users to be old enough and experienced enough with the internet to not click fake download links.
Radishl wrote: This website is slowing down my computer, one mistake click and they are installed.
I'm going to be blunt here: This is entirely your own fault. While I don't approve of Mediafire featuring such things on their site for money, the old "fool me once" applies here. You should be aware full well by now which link is the real download link. Not to mention it certainly takes more than one click for a virus to be installed, unless you have absolutely minimal security settings on. In which case it's totally your own fault.
Radishl wrote: One does not simply " ignore " ads when they pop up in your face extremely unexpectedly and then you click it accidentally.
I've never had a Mediafire ad just pop up right as I clicked. Or pop up ever for that matter, but that's probably because I actually have a pop-up blocker. Regardless, unless you have absolutely no security on your computer whatsoever (and maybe even then), I'm fairly sure it's not possible to get a virus just from clicking an ad.

Unless you open an obvious malware like "smbx.zip.exe", you can't just get a virus from clicking an ad.

Mediafire in general isn't a bad Website. Sure it is a bit strong for weaker PC to upload everything over there but still, patient is also a thing we need on our runs. And the real Download Links are basically always the same Style of graphics and colors so how is this so hard to avoid?

I never said anything about links. I'm talking about the ads.
I too have a pop up locker I believe. My computer is very well secured.
My only concern is the viruses. And the well being of others.

Also my applogies if I worded it wrong, I meant " please update the smbx download and use another site for it "

I might not be able to change the media fire site but I'll try to make the downloads as friendly as possible.
And in response to ignoritus, what does age have anything to do with experience with the Internet?

Again I'm not talking about the download, I'm talking about the Ads that popup and are around.

Just ignore them once they are coming up and press the 'X' Button on the top right or press Alt+F4.

Lol pressing the x button is prob as bad as clicking install. What I do is go to the task bar and right click, and close it.

And yea Alt + f4 is a good idea Aswell.

Getting rid of Mediafire? NO. If you get an ad, close it. It's as simple as that.

Oh yeah, why is this in General anyway. Shouldn't it go in SuperMarioBrosX.Org or Sandbox?

Yea it prob Shuld be in smbx.org

Lol, like I said earlier. It's not that simple to close ads dude. They pop up in ur face and every single time you click download you risk becoming infected. I find it extremely irritating and other people find it aswell.

They pop up the exact second you click download..... Why Arnt you guys getting that.pleasetell me I'm not the only one with this problem. And btw where does it say you have to be experienced with the Internet to play a damn game...

You guys are sounding extremely selfish and inconsiderate.

Firstly, a disclaimer - I have had an adware program downloaded onto my computer without my consent before when downloading a graphic, and I'm not sure how it got on there, though I'm pretty sure it's my fault. It was easily removed though. I don't see why the SMBX community should be banned from uploading the files to said sites just because a minority have an issue with it. This is often due to people not looking properly at what is on the screen when they are downloading stuff, subsequently downloading crap.

When you use a file-sharing site with adverts, it's important to look around and not click on any images/text that look dodgy (ie."Work from home for £££ a month!!!" "MEET HOT GIRLS ON FUCKY.ORG" and "Use our download manager so we can spam you") and close the windows and avoid pop-ups. It's basic internet ABC, and if you get a virus infection from one of these download managers, while it is partly the sites fault for creating them in the first place, it's also partly your own fault for downloading the files required for them to work, as you clicked on the link that downloads the files.

Are you using Windows 7?

If yes then you have a myriad of options to learn and find where it's at in your computer.

If not then that's why you should upgrade to Windows 7. Google it and do research on it. Don't just click the first thing you see and believe it.

LOL dat poll though.

I'm not saying no because I don't care or "love viruses" but because we can't overprotect everyone. Even w/o AdBlock there are no ads popping up into my face. They open in the background on a layer behind the DL screen and I thus have no danger on clicking it. And virus programs are probably a good idea to have to while you internet lol.

Again, it's your fault if you click on these ads. Not clicking ads should be basic internet knowledge. And I think ~50% of all download links on this are Mediafire, and imagine ALL of these getting deleted and the poster has to set them up again. WAY too much work for protecting 3 people unexperienced with the internet. Also, you seem to be the only one posting here that seems to have an issue.

(There are probably 6 Yes on the poll because how you made it sound there, there would be other results if it would be "Yes" and "No")

Where is the, "No I am a man and I can deal with viruses," option anyway?

It's been so long since I've started using adblocker that I forgot how it's like to surf the web butt naked. Such a horrible idea don't do that.

^THIS

You're basically manipulating people with how you worded the poll.

Let's just forbid people linking any site that has ads because 3 people on the forum can use neither AdBlock or a virus program. Best idea 10/10 would do again.

SMBX.org gets ads because there is need for money for server costs or whatever? Let's forbid linking to this site or even better close the site.

It has been said already, but the main reason for people downloading viruses it's basically their own fault. Although those sites share part of the fault as well.

You said we were selfish and inconsiderate, but just so you know, the internet isn't a place for people to be babysited, if you do something you have no idea about you DO acknowledge that if something happens it IS your fault for doing stuff you have no idea about. For example, let’s say a mouse infiltrates a house looking for some cheese. The owners of the house placed a mouse trap for any mouse that would dare to steal there. If the mouse gets trapped may be because the owners of the house placed it, but it is also the mouse’s fault for infiltrating the house in the first place.

And before you say something like "you're comparing the userbase with mouses" or some shit, yeah, I'm doing so, because it may be easier for you to understand so this way. You're planning to blame the owners for something when the mouse has part of the fault as well. I could give you tons of examples, but that would take time and I'm not too fond on digging to something that much. So summarizing, the internet is culture, so if you want to remain unharmed you better start learning on your own or ask someone. And don't expect the entire community to be teaching all kind of stuff you should learn to each newbie so they won't get a virus, like I said, we're not babysitting each user for their own sake.

So yeah, let people ask by themselves.

Yeah unless you are surfing on the seedier parts of the web you don't just get viruses in your face.

I mean, you would REALLY have to try to pick up trojan horses n malware n all that crap just by existing.

Alright. Not like I care about my well being.

I've tried closing the ads and I was successful but my computer still is slower than normal.

I don't care about viruses, I guess ill just have them because its my fault somehow.

Lock please.
