How the hell do you need proof that a flashing image causes seizures?
There needs to be proof that the Spark and Shell ranks cause seizures.

There you go then. Besides, not changing something at the point of not caring about how it would affect the userbase physically to the point of telling them "then you should leave" is pretty much unprofessional. If you care about the community, you need to make changes attractive enough so people would start coming and stop leaving.
...nobody left because of a single rank.
So? I'm not referring to actions that the userbase has done because of those words, I'm talking about the attitude.

You're starting to understand my point. Yes, the burden of proof is on Knux, so instead of saying he's wrong we need certain proofs. That is, if the staff actually cares about possible physical damage that the forum inflicts to the userbase.
You don't understand what I said. So, Knux says, "The kamikaze koopa rank needs to be removed because it is seizure-inducing" without showing evidence. In this case, the staff isn't obliged to fulfill Knux's request because it's ungrounded. Knux's assertion that the rank is dangerous to users doesn't qualify as proof.
If people ignore this problem because they have no proof of this being a real issue it just shows how unconnected the community is in reality. What do you guys want exactly? A note from a doctor proving Knux's difficulty to look at those ranks? C'mon guys.

Look, I kind of understand where you're coming from, but you've also got to understand that Knux is an honest user. I doubt he would lie about a flashing image hurting his eyes. In fact, it even hurts my eyes a bit and I am not prone to seizures or anything.

If someone came up to us and said "one of these ranks gave me or my friend a seizure" then the situation would be different.

For what it's worth, I'm not "paranoid". Knux is saying now that it hurts his eyes - to me this just looks like he couldn't win before with the seizure argument so now he's switched to something different. This further proves that Knux is only saying these things because he wants the staff to do what he wants.

That's just what it looks like. Like I've said, you can install software to block certain images (Magician already went over that).

Natsu wrote:I also agree with Knux's point. Forcing someone to install that certain plugin just because it hurts his eyes or ignore it is rather harsh.
These resources are in place to assist people, and it's not harsh to provide them as an alternative. That's about as harsh as giving a legless person a wheelchair.
Knux wrote:I stopped going on about seizure-prone victims because Joey and Valtteri seem to think that a small 16x16 image cant cause a seizure - but it can.
Okay, well, I had figured it was because you didn't have an answer to the legitimate point that people who are seizure prone would naturally be very careful and would probably already be using plugins or software similar to what I've described and shown.
Knux wrote:I ask for the rank to be changed for two reasons. The first being seizure-related, and the second because it hurts my eyes - and it possibly could hurt others.
A simple request to change it to something else, and all I get are accusations of trying to control the staff team. It's just ridiculous, and funny considering Joey used to
have a go at me for being "too paranoid". But tell me, who's the paranoid one here? Maybe what I'm asking is stirring up a lot more than it should, but it's certainly not an attempt to control things.
The fact that you refuse the image blocker (which, if you use firefox, takes even less time than it would take to remove the rank) shows an unwillingness to compromise on the issue. What you're tacitly displaying is that you care more about the staff doing something as per your request than fixing the one concern that you have that can't be refuted (it hurts your eyes).

I wonder if it would be possible to have an option regarding seizures and other flashing-image problems
Not possible, and there are browser addons for that.

Yeah, seizure-prone folks are trusted to be able to handle their illnesses themselves. Like it's been said before, the forum staff should not be responsible for the small percentage of people that such images would affect, and those people are presumed to have the required plugins anyway.

The percentage of people who have seizure problems is 0 as of now, Snifitguy.

Apparently, there is a "secret" rank that only appears if you have exactly 1337 posts, heh heh. Before this post I had it.

Nah, 1337 is just an old meme, essentially the word "elite" written in leetspeak. See also "hax0rs", "n00b", and "pr0n".

If the actual percentage of people with known seizures is small, then yeah, it's not the forum owner's/staff's responsibility.
I agree. They should just get an image blocker thing.

Just curious, how high up do the ranks go? Like, right now, what's the postcount for the highest rank?

Holy shit, I'd love to live to see the day when an SMBX any forum lasts long enough for someone to have that many posts.

I would like to live long enough to see someone reach even half. I haven't seen any user on any forum reach not even 20,000 posts. Do you guys even have the rank images ready for such a high amount of posts? And what about the remaining ones between 1,600 to 1,000,000?

Well, remember, the ranks become harder and harder to reach every few ranks. There don't necessarily have to be THAT many different ranks.
