Bowser road (beta)

They're not that bad, but they're not that good either.

In SMBX, press F12 to take a screenshot, then go to an image hosting website (Postimage.org recommended) and choose your screenshot to upload in Computer--->SMBX--->Screenshots.

Also, the point of posting something in the Levels forum is to make your levels playable. To add a download link, put your optional MP3 file and additional custom graphics in a folder, send it to a compressed .zip folder, go to a download hosting website (DropBox recommended), and lastly, copy+paste the link of your level and put it in the URL BBCode on the forums.

Still, you need a download link. If you're saying that the level isn't finished or the download link isn't ready yet, note that the whole purpose of making a level thread is to share your level to the public so it can be reviewed. Seeing one simple screenshot isn't an excuse to say "I don't need a download link".

Also, regarding your screenshot, if you think it's easier to upload an attachment, that's fine, but I recommend you take the image link and put it like this:

[img]*Insert%20image%20link%20here*[/img]

The image BBCode is at the top of where you're posting.

Otherwise, this looks neat. I like the addition of the red dolphin; that's pretty clever. However, I don't think the background fits and you could perhaps consider adding some burnt background objects in the lava? Anyway, keep it up.

You're not allowed to post beta levels, though. It is against the rules to have a screenshot but not a download link. However, if you would like to get any feedback on your beta level, I recommend you go to this thread: http://www.smbxgame.com/forums/v ... =69&t=3230

Yeah, background bones would be good to have.

You do have screenshots and a download link, but is the level finished and completable? (The reason I can't do that myself right now is because I currently don't have access to my desktop)

Let's get straight into reviewing this.

When I first opened this level up and saw the first screen of the level, I was pretty impressed. But once I started playing this, I wasn't impressed anymore much at all. For starters, and lots of reviewers have said this before, but there's a difference between "hard" and "unfair", and it seems your goal was to make this hard. But this level wasn't hard. It was just unfair. You, for starters, had the lava way too low towards in certain parts of this level and I found myself dying continuously after jumping too high. Also, I think you should make some warning on a SMW message block telling you that red dolphins move when jumping on them. Speaking of those moving red dolphins, they were way too fast. I mean I'm glad to see you messing with NPC speeds using .txt files, but you could at least make your messing around fair, if that makes any sense. If it doesn't, than just make the dolphin's speed slower.

Regarding placement, it was nice, but you should tone down the coins a bit. Occasionally you clustered them in areas and this is bad design. Otherwise, as said earlier, you placement was nice.

This level's atmosphere was very SMW-y and I liked that since you don't see SMW levels much nowadays. However, the background didn't fit at all. I'd recolor it more reddish.

I liked the music.

The design and gameplay was good despite the points I made in that five line paragraph earlier.

So uh, overall, this is worthy of a 5.5. Average level with many flaws, most of those flaws relating to difficulty.
