The Legend of Darkness is a SMBX-38A episode made by Hel Studio, whose members are mostly from China.

To celebrate Mario's 40th Anniversary, I created commemorative levels based on the framework of the SMBX-38A project - 'The Legend of Darkness' that our team previously built, and integrated them into a standalone game for everyone to play. These stages blend elements from Super Mario Bros. with other classic 2D Mario games, offering a fresh yet nostalgic experience for players.

Sorry for the duplicate question, but why does the project require 64-bit support? Doesn't SMBX-38A even work on 32-bit systems? Why?

Sorry for not having time to reply your question before.
As for your question: It is not SMBX-38A itself requires 64-bit system, but the standalone exe file that the packing tool generates requires. You can play this episode in SMBX-38A directly. In order to play it in your SMBX-38A, you need to find the folder named "!TLoDM40TH" and open the "worlds" folder, copy the folder named "The Legend of Darkness Mario 40th Anniversary Special" and put it in your SMBX-38A's "worlds" folder. Then you can play this episode in SMBX-38A directly.
