Event refuses to start upon level test

Every time I test play a custom level in Super Mario Bros. X2, the event refuses to start automatically.

Is this a known issue? Is there some way to fix it?

For some reason, after I made the event start automatically via "Level - Start", the game is really laggy for unknown reasons. My custom level's name is "MARIO_GBA".
