[SMBX2] Luigikid's Vengeance 2

Postby Coll4040 » Tue Aug 02, 2022 10:03 pm

Luigikid's Vengeance 2 is a sequel to an episode I made in August 2014 for a Youtuber I watched at the time. It was pretty horrid, though I promised that I would make a second one, which I decided to cancel in May 2015 but then revived years later. It was initially finished on 12-09-2020. Now, almost two years later, I figure I might as well throw it up here after slightly touching it up.

There are just four levels, and none are very long. I made Late and Cyclical Days, whereas a collaborator made Ablation and A Crumbling State (albeit still with significant contributions from myself). I'll be leaving them uncredited for reasons I won't get into.

Here's the download!

Now, I'd recommend going into this blind so I've spoilered the following description of the episode. It doesn't include actual spoilers for the levels, but it does lightly touch on my intent and thoughts regarding the episode, and I think it's preferable to go in without any such expectations so your opinion isn't influenced by me. Also, as should be expected, the screenshots below the summary section also kinda spoil some visuals. So... yeah, discretion there as well.
The actual description: show
Luigikid's Vengeance 2 takes place four years after LV1, with Luigikid in his dimly-lit house one night, feeling highly unwell. He sets off on a walk hoping to alleviate his aimlessness, venturing through rainfall and past fauna, only to stumble upon a newspaper informing him of a theorized treasure on another continent. Perhaps with newfound resolve, he promises himself that acquiring it will turn his life around and finally absolve him of his petty rivalry from so long ago.

I'd like to hear what people might think of this! Just don't speak on mechanical platforming all too much, that won't be a priority for me going forward and I know it isn't good here. At least, I don't think it's very fun, but hey: if I make anything else for this game it'll be purely atmospheric. I do not like doing this type of level design. Really, my hope with this is that it showcases a unique and intriguing type of aesthetic. Not a creepypasta, maybe a little disturbing, but mostly just esoteric and novel.

If you'd like to listen to the soundtrack on its own, by far the part of this project with the most effort put into it, you can find it here! There's also a free download on bandcamp linked in the description there. (Note: the versions in-game are slightly newer/modified mixes so they will sound marginally different.)
