The Great Goo Blaster
an SMBX episode by Julia Pseudo
This project contains the best of my SMBX work, and currently contains the first two worlds, plus a few other things. I am really happy with how it's come out, and I could not have done it without my friend xtravisage (who made the world map), my lovely girlfriend underFlorence (who provided lots of important technical support for LunaLua related stuff), and many others of you whose graphics and Lua I used and whose feedback I have garnered over the years.Story
(the most important aspect of any SMBX project!)
Bowser has returned for revenge against the Mario brothers with his most dastardly plot yet! He's acquired a great goo blaster, with which he plans to goo up the Mario brothers' house, thereby drastically reducing its property value and rendering the Mario brothers penniless! If they want to challenge him, the brothers must travel to Happy Tree Island, but Happy Tree Island is widely known as a place of fear and horror, and who knows what dangers could await them?
Features (in the current demo)
- Over 15 levels
- 5 star coins in every level
- lots of secrets!
- heavy usage of smbx2 features and npcs
- a world map made with MrDoubleA's SMWMap
- Enjl's antizip.lua
- puzzles
- achievements!
- switch palaces (only one at the moment)
- looped ogg music tracks courtesy of underFlorence and xtravisage!
Stuff that currently isn't featured
- rewards for collecting star coins (coming soon)
- a launcher page (coming soon)
- levels in world 2 that 100% match the world theme visually (coming soon; the peaches and stuff were a late addition by xtravisage while making the map that we both agree is good, but it was too late to rework all the levels. this will be in the next release!)
- super amazing lua stuff (i am just not that technical, and i am happy with the current degree of lua stuff more or less, though there'll be a bit more in the future hopefully, for star coins and so forth.)
Design notes
- Levels in this are pretty long (but the longest have multiple midpoints) and fairly difficult. I have assumed that anyone playing this has at least basic Mario knowledge, so that kind of low-level tutorializing is not here.
- Mario and Luigi are both available to be played, but levels are primarily designed and tested with Mario in mind, so if there are Luigi-specific issues, they will not likely be addressed.
- Similarly, there are start points for two players in each level, but levels are designed and tested with one player in mind, and many of SMBX2's new features do not support two players, so related issues will not be addressed.
Known issues
- Using the offscreen exit in the Palace of Diamonds counts as pressing the switch.

Any graphics and such that I’ve made for this episode (those credited to Julia Pseudo) are totally ok for you to use, as long as you credit me, Julia Pseudo, as the creator. If you want to use anything made by other creators, ask them (most of it is taken from the community graphics pack though, available in the graphics forum)!

Upcoming Stream (now ended)
My friend xtravisage is streaming this demo at 5 PM Eastern time today, August 7 on her youtube channel (that's a little over 30 minutes from time of posting)! Check it out if you like, I'll also be commentating!
UPDATE: The stream has ended, you can watch the replay here.

Part 2 of the stream is here: https://youtu.be/1b90Vo_a86A
IMPORTANT UPDATE: A hotfix has been released that prevents a crash in Beezo Valley. The main download has been updated, but you can also download the fixed level on its own. If you do so, drag and drop the level into the episode folder.
Also another has been released that prevents a crash in The Desert of Drought.
In a third update I have made some small but important changes to the credits in README.txt to fix some things that were previously in error.
8/8/2021: Another update has been released, which contains some small changes in response to feedback. You can still download the hotfixes on their own if you'd like, but this contains a few other changes as well, including a fix for the red paratroopa issue in Mushwood Road courtesy of MrDoubleA.
8/10/2021: Another update has been released, almost certainly the last update for this release unless a critical issue is found. It contains some small changes that slightly reduce the difficulty of Beezo Valley and The Desert of Drought in response to feedback, and contains a fix for a small issues with the Snifits in one of the later areas of Saccharine Sinkhole.
8/15/2021: A third update, probably the last one for real, is here! Find the changelog below here.
