Hello everyone.
Recently, I've looked to see if there's a topic that asks users what tools they used, and I came up empty-handed.
And that leads to this topic in question: what tools do you use?
Of course, it doesn't have to be in a specific field (or even involving SMBX); whatever you use commonly is fine enough.
I'll start.
Graphic Creation/Modifications: show
In general, I use Paint.Net, Aseprite (Trial), and yy-chr for ripping, or modifying already existing graphics. Other programs I've used is Gimp, and MS Paint (although I don't use Gimp as much, and I only used MS Paint for prototyping).
Audio Creation/Modifications: show I have used Audacity when it comes to creating, or modifying sound/music. I haven't done much Audio Manipulation as I have with Graphics, but I still use it occasionally.
I commonly use Notepad++ not just for Programming, but in general use as well.
Besides Moondust (aka: Default SMBX 2.0 Editor), I have also used Godot to try and create games, regardless if it's fanmade or indie. I'm going to be honest, I haven't done much, as I'm still learning how it works.

For graphics, I have always used Aseprite. I also feel like getting started with paint.net.
For audio, I use Audacity too when it comes to small edits. I have also experienced with FL Studio 20, and even made some short simple tracks with it

I use paint.net and Pixlr, I really want to get Photoshop and other Adobe programs that I've used for school, but those cost money that I currently don't have. For editing videos, I use to have a cracked version of Sony Vegas Pro on my old laptop that may or may not still work, but recently I've been using a combination of a couple free online video diting sites like clipchamp and flixier, some free screen capture software, and some video cropping sites as well. Recurring word here is "free", lol.

avidemux to crop and export part of a video/recording i want to show by itself
sony vegas pro 12 for more nuanced video editing
paint.NET to edit and create images/textures/graphics
notepad++ for all my programming/scripting/coding
famistudio for creating chiptunes
blender for creating 3d models
I also use various tools to assist in conveying information when I speedrun games
obs studio for my streams/raw recordings of gameplay
livesplit to track the time of a speedrun and other various statistics
retrospy, along with some arduino hardware, to visualize the inputs i perform on a controller in real time
i can currently do this for playstation 2 and wii
avidemux, again, for determining the precise timing of speedruns down to the exact frame

Besides Moondust (aka: Default SMBX 2.0 Editor)
Moondust is not a "Default SMBX 2.0 Editor", it's a fully standalone and independent project that contains many programs for various purposes (there are Moondust Devkit and Moondust Engine runtime parts). The SMBX2 keeps using the Moondust Devkit for Editor and a whole bunch of helper tools included.

Okay, now I'll answer the topic question:
I do use many tools, often use GIMP for tweaks and mods, and for some painting too, Inkscape for the vector graphics, etc.
To modify various audio files I do use Audacity. In the past, I used the SoundForge 6. For MIDI music I do use Sekaiju MIDI editor, I do really like this editor, and I started to use it instead of the very ancient Cakewalk Sonar 1.3 I had to use since my childhood. However, it's pretty old and lacks a lot of things. Sometimes it won't open a lot of MIDI files. Sekaiju wins, it opens these broken files very quickly and perfectly.
My favorite IDE is the Qt Creator I do use for a long time for general C++ development. At the same time, I do use a lot of JetBrains IDEs too (Clion, PyCharm, WebStorm, PhpStorm, DataGrip) and Android Studio, however, if I had the low-end computer, I damning the world because of so heavy IDEs written in Java, as they eat the whole RAM making the computer stuck. I do also use Xed and VisualStudio Code for side things. I often use virtual machines like VirtualBox and VMWare Player to run other operating systems and debug the stuff on them. In some cases, I do use IDA to extract various tricky things.
For SMBX and related stuff, I do use Moondust and TheXTech. I do also use GZDoom to play and tweak Doom-related stuff. I do also trying to mod/tweak some other games I played in the past.

My apologies; I associated it with SMBX 2.0, since it's the editor that SMBX uses (currently). Thanks for the correction, Wohlstand.

I founded this project independently in 2014 with two goals: to revive SMBX (therefore tools built being very compatible with SMBX) and give the toolkit to make brand-new games (that's why I built the config packs system that will allow you to craft a whole new thing, using just the engine features without sticking on items). The Editor was the first major counterpart of the Moondust Project that got the stable state and started being used by the SMBX community independently as an alternative Editor for SMBX. SMBX2 had to pick up the Moondust Toolkit because it allows much more than vanilla Editor which can't be improved because of limitations. Anyway, since December 2019 I have desired to majorly reduce my activity at SMBX2 and focus on my independent work because I got understanding that the real progress of the project got a huge hiatus since 2016 as people noticed me. I wanted to change that.

Graphic Creation?
- FOR SPRITES: A combination of the original MS Paint XP + Paint.NET.
- FOR MY JSAB COMICS: Inkscape and MediBang Paint (formerly).
Audio Creation?
- MODIFYING SOUNDS: Audacity
- COMPOSITION & CREATION: Famitracker and OpenMPT
Programming?
- Programming is not usually my forte, but I use Notepad++ to edit some LUA scripts.
Game Engines?
- I don't use game engines, but I have PGE Moondust Editor ready for creating SMBX levels.

I currently use AudioMass instead of Audacity. It's designed for basic audio editing actions (it's an online editor) but I pretty much use it only to prepare SFX files for SMBX stuff
