[SMBX2] Luigi's Adventure: The Stolen Hat – A Cinematic Episode (HUGE UPDATE!)

Hey everyone! I am new to this forum, but anything but new to SMBX. I used to be on many of the old forums back in 2010-2012. Last year, I have found myself with a lot of free time (as many have) and decided to look into SMBX and was surprised about how far it has come and how many new possibilities there are! So I decided to spend some time to revive an old project I had started back in the day: Luigi's Adventure: The Stolen Hat.



Accompany Luigi on his search for his stolen hat! Bring him through all four seasons: the lush and dry summer, the colorful autumn, the dark and cold winter and the blooming spring. Defeat 4 bosses and help him face his final challenge...



With 4 worlds (plus a bonus world at the end!), each consisting of 4-6 levels, there are plenty of uniquely designed levels for you to play. The focus especially lies on the aesthetic and while the gameplay does not fall short, these levels are primarily meant to be fun to look at while playing them. Five custom boss fights serve as bigger challenges throughout. The widescreen view makes each level look all the more cinematic and the custom hub is a widescreen-adjusted version of the original Super Mario World hub!

As I didn't originally intend to publicly release this episode, I am yet to compile a full list of credits. There is a ridiculous amount of online custom graphics from a number of sources and it will take me a bit to track all of them down again. Here is what I have so far:

Where it goes from here...
I am still very much actively working on this project! I have finished all basic level designs and am now mostly working on the levels themselves and additional luna scripts and other features! Maybe it is time for a little demo...
I'm also still looking for help when it comes to scripts and level design, so if anyone would like to join this project, I would be happy to welcome them!

Thank you! Most of them are just random SMWCentral finds and then oftentimes edited and recolored to fit with the theme. I plan on releasing some of the edited ones as well as the custom backgrounds on here soon!

So far, the widescreen is just a black border that covers two blocks on the top and bottom; not sure if there is a better way to do it. And awesome - I'll PM you!

I have been working on new levels as well as a new Luigi playable - thanks to the incredible work by CaptainMonochrome, whose extremely accurate SMM2 Luigi I have edited to be hatless!

Visually this project is proving to be really impressive, it's a mix between a classic SMBX episode and a SMW romhack with visual restyling akin to TSRP.
I do hope the level design will also follow this polished trend but by the looks of it, it looks to be a pretty good romp, looking forward to this whenever there's progress or gets eventually released, keep it up yo

Thanks! I had actually not heard about TSRP before, but it looks awesome and sure will give me inspiration.

As for the level design: I'm planning to release a demo level soon(ish), but I can already say that the levels are not going to be incredibly challenging as I want this episode to focus more on the experience (think Firewatch - just less story-driven). I realize that might not be everyone's cup of tea, but I believe it can still make for a fun game!

Judging from the screenshots, would you have any preference as to which level you would like to play as a demo?

On god, this is just grade A top tier stuff chief. Appears to have fun level design and mesmerizing aesthetics that certainly please my eye, I'm a sucker for SMW stuff. I am so GENUINELY excited to play this when it drops.
