SMBX 1.3.0.1 - Lag in certain rooms when effects spawn

Postby PearFinch » Sat Jan 23, 2021 8:46 pm

Greetings,

So there's a problem I've been getting in my levels and it's immensely frustrating. In some levels, in random rooms, there will be huge lag spikes, whereas other rooms do not have lag spikes. I have no idea what causes it. My PC specs are not the issue - they are stellar.

Here's the rundown: I'll make a level. In the first section of the level, it will run normally. When I am done with that section, I go on to make the other section and suddenly, whenever I place an NPC entity or anything that generates an effect (smoke clouds, block gibs, etc.), it will lag spike. It will only happen in this room, no matter how little things exist in it.

I display this problem in the demo video linked here.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

~ PearFinch

QUICK NOTE: I somehow just fixed this issue by cloning the section to another random section. Both sections started working normally after this.
Uh... What?

Hello!

The lag of that has an explanation: vines. Vanilla Editor has a painful bug that puts hundreds of vines while you draw a short line of them only. You can use the standalone PGE Editor (download here, simplest way by Online Installer, please use "SMBX 1.3 Compat" config pack):
- Open your buggy level
- Open Tools / Custom data / Clean-up junk NPCs menu. It will find all duplicated vines and it will remove them, keeping only one per position. Then, re-run the level again.

P.S. if you didn't know, since SMBX' source code got open, the modern port of the game called TheXTech got introduced, you may see something here: viewtopic.php?f=69&t=25352
