This is mostly an appeal to the mods, but I post it here because others might have opinions they'd like to voice, too.
What's this about?
There's been a lot of talk in the judge chat for CCX1 about the future of contests on the forums, and how we can build things up into a more constant schedule; something fun to look forward to that has kinda been missing since the previous set of organizers have left. And looking around towards something like SMWCentral, this place here kinda feels like the stone age of community engagement.
The Goals
- Introducing more community events to look forward to (contests and new types)
- Rewarding members for their contributions to the community through those events (new incentives!)
- Giving new people looking to judge contests a chance to show what they can do (we kinda got a judge drought right now lol)
The Proposal
ShadowstarX and I (with help from Sancles as a sanity check) would like to trial this idea throughout next year. Our plan is to host a vanilla and chocolate contest, as well as two minor contests (like the 48h one) and some new event ideas that haven't been done before. With another open slot available if we're on-time by late autumn. We'd like to grow this idea into something proper and offical with its own spot on the forums for organization and all that jazz, since the contest formula continues to grow beyond just "one global thread".
Since we don't want to pester the mods about doing all the work for this every time, I think it would be good if we could introduce the Contest and Events subforum, and a new role for Event Organizers that have moderative powers within that subforum to create subforums for new contests or events, as well as creating sticky and global threads, and archiving outdated contests (avlc is still a global announcement smh).
That's the gist of it. Looking forward to seeing what you think^^
