Mario's Quest

Mario's Quest is a classic Mario adventure which blends the SMB1, SMB3, & SMW themes into one game. It has 8 worlds, which are as follows:

  1. Goomba Grasslands
  2. Fuzzy Forest
  3. Buzzy Beetle Beach
  4. Tanooki Suit Tundra
  5. Monty Mole Mountain
  6. Spiny Space Station
  7. Dry Bone Desert
  8. Bob‐omb Basin
Worlds will usually be released in two parts, with the exception of worlds 2, 6, & 8 due to their long length. This game will also feature switch palaces, found in 4 of the 8 worlds within the game.

Intriguing. Do you have concrete ideas for some of the individual levels already? Definitely helps to avoid running out of ideas halfway through.

The release schedule seems excessive and a tad random. You don't specify what makes it so that the jump from W6 Part 1 to W6 Part 2 constitutes a new greek letter. I'd say focus more on developing than releasing.

Mario's Quest Prev‐Α is now officially released! Click here to download it.
Installation instructions:
  1. Create a new folder inside of the ‘worlds’ folder.
  2. Extract the ZIP file into this folder.
  3. Enjoy!
Do NOT extract this directly into your worlds folder as it will create a huge mess that will be extremely difficult to clean up.

Just made an updated 16‐bit version of the Mario's Quest logo to more accurately reflect the 16‐bit art style of this game! This is now the official logo for Mario's Quest.

Once again, a changelog for those who are interested:

  • Added Wᴏʀʟᴅ 1‐4, 1‐5, Yellow Switch Palace, 1‐6, & 1‐Castle.
  • Edited Wᴏʀʟᴅ 1‐1's ending segment, replacing the portals with munchers.
  • Edited the pipe layout near the end of Wᴏʀʟᴅ 1‐3 so that the player is no longer damaged immediately when emerging from the bottom pipe with a power‐up.
  • Fixed a bug in Wᴏʀʟᴅ 1‐3 where the player could fly underneath the end platform.
  • Fixed a bug in Wᴏʀʟᴅ 1‐1 where the player could fly over the second‐to‐last clear pipe.
  • Fixed numerous points in Wᴏʀʟᴅ 1‐2 where the player could fly over/under portions of the level.
  • Fixed an issue in Wᴏʀʟᴅ 1‐Fortress where the level could become unbeatable if the player failed to drop the Big Thwomp before the P‐switch timer ran out.
  • Changed Toad's design in most levels to look more like it is from SMB3.
  • Added modified battle mode variants for some levels. They are found in the ‘_Battle Mode Levels’ folder.

  • Fixed an issue in Wᴏʀʟᴅ 1‐4 where the player could clip through the ON/OFF blocks after the clear pipe.
  • Completely replaced Wᴏʀʟᴅ 1‐5.
I would also like to announce the beginning of the Lite version! It's similar to the standard version except specifically optimized to reduce file size without hindering play experience. Some things that are excluded are:

I also for some reason made this, a version of Mario's Quest Prev‐Β.1 Lite with absolutely no custom graphics. It looks like crap, doesn't get a logo, but it's only 148kB, so if you want to play Mario's Quest Prev‐Β.1, but somehow don't have 612kB of free memory, this is the way to go! Either that, or for some reason you enjoy looking at unpolished garbage. I call it: Mario's Quest −2.1.

Coming back to this 3y later with plenty more experience with level creation, I can say that these levels aren't very good. Difficulty is all over the place (1-A is far too difficult for W1) and many levels are either uninspired or their ideas are underdeveloped. Many of the levels also feel too short due to the lack of development of ideas where they are present. Also, the world map is incredibly barren. I am thinking of working on a new episode in the near future (thinking of calling it mario's quest redux), but i won't promise anything as i already have a partially completed super world in smm2 (maker id 2TX-1P2-XPF for those interested in checking it out if/when it releases) and tend to start and abandon these projects (adhd/autism-related hyperfixation dying out). Am excited to get my hand back into level creation though; mixing my design skills from smm2 with the more powerful tools of smbx2!
