  • Difficulty: Easy/Normal.
  • Playable Characters: Mario.
  • Made in: SMBX2 Beta 3.
This is my first level that actually implements some LunaLua coding, and I'm pretty satisfied with the current result. Of course, it might not be the best thing you'll ever see, but it's still meaningful to me. Take it as a challenge I did for myself. As always, constructive criticism is appreciated.

Note that this is NOT the final product, as a bunch of things may change in the upcoming build releases. Expect some frame drops or glitches to kick in (I've tested the level a lot of times and it seems to run pretty smoothly on my PC).

  • Playable on SMBX2 Launcher (you can find it in your episodes list).
  • 15 Sections.

  • Level Boss with several phases (some can are random).
  • Not that long, otherwise you could get bored of it.
  • Modified Power-Up: Hollow Flame (used to kill light enemies and open certain areas of the level).
  • 90% effective Anti-Softlock system.
  • Ship Minigame (unlockable by defeating the boss).
  • Enemies with different behaviours than usual.
  • Single-player ONLY.
  • Easter Egg Secret Exit (unlockable after beating the Ship minigame).
  • Fixed lots of glitches and graphic issues.

Instructions:
  1. Click on the download link to get the MSSTTM.rar archive from MediaFire.
  2. Extract the archive in your SMBX2\data\worlds folder.
  3. Open the SMBX2 launcher and click on the "Select Episode" icon in the bottom-left corner.
  4. Choose "Mario Should Stop Taking Those Mushrooms!" from the Episodes List.
  5. Hit the "Play" button and, hopefully, enjoy the level.

This custom level looks like a mix of Limbo-style and ZX Spectrum style from the screenshots

This is literally the best level in December.

The drabbing atmosphere, monotonic graphic, the generally depressing design. Starting from the number of details. It is rich. Like graphic itself contains more you need, including the bridge, the sign locating the hollow fire, keycard mechanism, the people who hung themselves, the fog. Just wow.

And the sense of exploration is just sprouting, in which you can explore the additional area for 1-ups and stuff, or maybe just getting the hollow flame or the keycard, not to include the minigame area.

Things get interesting in the nostalgia section, which requires getting the flame and the keycard. Then with the castle section with Mario statue shooting lasers, which is mildly interesting but yet boring as you have to wait for the statue to move away. As well as the boss. It is an interesting boss where you pretty much survive that cursed Mario while the lasers of the flame will do their job. Though not much can be seen during the boss, it reminds me of Deltarune.

The story itself isn't much but shows how mushrooms got Mario crazy, and it is up to him to defeat his inner demons.

The other exit is so so, in which they are charming considering there is a minigame collecting flame and that cat picture hanging in the secret exit area. Kinda wonder what the secret exit area could mean in the story.

Though there is some minor issue that - it is easy to lose your flame due to some undetected sweeper's colour and location. While it is possible to get screwed if it is required to have the hollow fire, the power-ups don't respawn on it own ( as seen in Eclipsed's video ), which makes it difficult to progress.

I think I would rate it 8/10.

P.S. Hollow Flame Power-Ups actually do respawn (they are 5s generators) in Hollow Rooms (the ones that arrow signs point to).

If I was in place of the creator I'd say no because I don't even know anything about your game (like I don't even know to what extent it even exists yet).
