Discuss the two most obnoxiously irksome songs in the universe, "#SELFIE" and "What does the Fox Say".
Now, before this automatically gets locked, I'd appreciate if I get some discussion with these songs. I'm curious to see if I'm the only one who thinks these songs are appalling; thanks for understanding. And I'd like to contribute - I just took a selfie and it turned out great! I am so happy with the outcome!
WHY IT LOOKS LIKE ME:
i'm a male
i don't wear makeup
i never where jean shirts
i don't wear solid green shirts
i'm skinny
my hair is not red or orange or yellow or purple or pink
And if you've never heard of these songs, I'll link them here.
#SELFIE:
WHAT DOES THE FOX SAY:
Oh, and consider listening to these two songs at the same time. It will sound like Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus trying to sing a song by Elvis Presley that they're never heard before. But honestly, despite my uncharacteristic joking on this topic (hey, I'm not saying I don't joke constantly elsewhere), I don't want this to be a jokeish thread, even if these two songs were just made for laughs.

These songs don't deserve their own thread. Both are hilarious, and they're only annoying if you listen to them a million times. Both are parodies if you haven't found that out yet.

They're substantial enough to deserve their own thread, honestly. They are both extremely popular songs that, odds are, nearly every member on this forum know. Therefore, I decided this should be a topic because I'm ardent to see opinions.
I had no idea these were parodies; all of the results for "is #SELFIE a parody" was "it's technically a parody". There were no results when I looked up "is What does the Fox Say" a parody, though.

#SELFIE is a parody/comedy song. It's obviously parodying teen girls and the whole Selfie trend.
The Fox, which is by Norwegian comedy duo Ylvis, which in case you didn't know, is a group that makes comedic/parody songs. I suggest you go listen to a few of their other works.
Tris McCall of The Star-Ledger describes "The Fox" as "a parody of the excesses and absurdities of contemporary club music": the brothers "take turns singing preposterous lyrics about animal noises" over "typically vainglorious synthpop," with the proposed fox sounds "mimic[king] the car-alarm synthesizers of contemporary dubstep." He compares it to Ylvis' "Someone Like Me" which mocked the insertion of dubstep breaks into pop songs.

I legitimately enjoy listening to The Fox. I think it's a very memorable song. Does that make me a bad person?
#selfie is fun I guess but I don't really like it that much. It's definitely a parody song like 8bit said though.

I thought the greatest thing about Selfie was imagining old people get all riled up and upset about it, not realizing it's ironic, and writing blog posts about how the younger generation is intellectually broken. Though I appreciated it a little more when I thought it was one woman's creative commentary, and not just a couple of hipster dudes.
I much prefer these kinds of songs because they're at least (somewhat) fresh, even though I wouldn't put them on my personal playlist or anything. We'll eventually enter a stage where the idea of being obnoxious on the radio will stop being cool, but I honestly find it a lot less irritating than the bland, boring crap I'm otherwise forced to listen to whenever I'm at work.
My head is filled with tonnes of lethargic, clichéd drawls that do absolutely nothing for me. Though I guess if these other kind of songs were commonplace, I wouldn't care for them either.
I like What Does The Fox Say more because it doesn't stereotype people, and still can be taken as just a fun and silly song, despite that it's a parody.

The Fox sounds kinda cool but it's a really immature song.
#SELFIE is a prime example of why I don't like where the electronic music scene is going. The song has no chord progression and it sounds like it didn't take much effort to create (after all, they pretty much just use one note throughout the whole thing).

Since The Fox is a parody I don't mind it really. The only thing that gets to me is that YouTube sponsored it which made it way too popular than it needed to be.
As for #SELFIE, it kind of falls under Poe's law since it doesn't clearly show whether it's a parody or not. Assuming that it is, then it's a very bad one. Otherwise the end is near if that's what passes for entertainment.

This is the world last year we had Swag and that other thing now we have SELFIE. Expect something new in 2015 and nobody remembers Selfie anymore.

Selfie has been used for a few years now, I don't think somebody is just going to wipe it off the face of the planet.

You're right, it's not going to wipe off the face of the planet, but it has been used way less than a few years now. The official song was released January 28, 2014.

"Selfie" has been around a lot longer than the song some random people made about it.

Selfie is simply taking a picture of yourself, nothing more. You could simply say "taking a picture of yourself", but I'm guessing someone came up with the term "selfie", that way it'd actually have a word defining it.

I thought 8bitmushroom was referring to the song Selfie; I guess I was wrong, though.

Anything the world has to do with them is shit because immature kids act like this: "Omg what is SELFIE? LOL what is Swag? What does le fox say?" and they don't even know what they saying then and act like total badasses. Yeah why do these stuff even exist anyway they are like any other things that get lost somwhere anyway.
