Same, because they are supposed to be clouds, they are directly ripped from one of the SMB2 backgrounds.

I've always though SMB2's ending cutscene was a window with an ocean behind it, it really doesn't look anything like clouds at all to me.

That's not an ocean, thats clearly a sky, i even used the clouds for one of my levels before...

Water is also reflective, it reflects sky's color. That's why it's blue most of the time. Or well, desaturated blue in your case.

Are you talking about this scene?
The level is in world 7, so its theme should tell you everything you need to debunk your belief that this is an ocean.
(Although the hills and islands do make the clouds look more like an ocean, but it is still too bright).

Maybe to end the stupid debate, just offer a background that the exact same, just with darker water colours. Everybody's happy!
